Won"t start hot

Pardon me if this question has been covered before.
My 83 944 won't start when the engine gets hot and I'm not talking about when the temp gauge is pegged but just above normal, fluid is good, I have to wait for the thing to cool down for about 20 min before it will start, sometimes, my 6yo daughter has resorted to crossing her fingers when we go some where if it's hot outside,I'm thinking starter, everything else comes on except the starter not even a click.

Hi, check all your connections for corrosion and make sure they are all tight first and if that doesn't do it then you will have to pull the starter and have it checked. Some auto parts stores with test a starter for free. You will need to pull your + cable beforehand at the battery if you remove the starter.

Likely starter solenoid, You could try simply cleaning up the starter connections, as zedsn mentioned. What worked for me was removing the starter, removing the solenoid from the starter, cleaning up the solenoid plunger and cavity with fine sandpaper and giving it a shot of PB blaster before putting it all back together.

Go all the way and DIY rebuild. In time and frustration you will either buy a rebuilt or get your hands dirty .

If it turns out not to be the starter, you will have little expense.

I had the same problem. I cleaned all the grounds, checked the wires, etc.

I finally had the starter looked at by a reputable shop around the corner. The starter wasn't getting enough power to be able to start the car. The mechanic said it was just old wires, etc and installed a hot start relay for me, and it has been trouble free ever since. My car has never started this well.

A relatively cheap fix too.
