Camshaft housing gasket

I am having a major oil leak on my 944 from the gasket between the engine head and the camshaft housing.
Is it possible to change this seal without taking the engine off?
Is it easy?
What do you do with the timing belt? just slide it off after marking?

The engine can remain in the car. There is a very detailed procedure over at clarks garage .com. Easy is relative to your experience level. The timing belt remains in place you just slide it of the camshaft wheel, once of course you lock in the car at TDC. You will then have to readjust the timing belt tension. If you know your way around an engine it's not that bad. You just have to patient and carefull.
Good luck!

Follow the direction exactly and you will be able to do this job. I did it and I never did anything with a cam before. Just do EXACTLY what the direction say to do.

Thank you very much for the answer.
The procedure at Clark's garage seems indeed very detailed

mind as well get a new timing belt while everything is off. and what worked for me was a little bit of gasket sealer to keep the gasket in place while installing the tower assembly...

Good point! Do the timing belts, water pump, and the rear cam tower gasket all at the same time.
