Oh "Snap"!! computer chip

I beleive my car needs speed/reference sensors. The other day I was going through my car to try and find other things that could be wrong with the car. I remeber I was in a thread and someone said to take the computer out, and re-set the chip. While doing that, I was taking out the chip, almost had it all the way out (6 pins were still in) when I broke one of the pins. I put the the pin back in its place, and put the chip back in. It looks like the broken pin is making contact with the rest of the chip, but does it need to be perfect? I have a chip from a lte model, but the part #'s dont match, and am pretty dam sure that a late chip wont work in an early model. Any options other than buying a new chip (whole DME)? Embarassing to say that I did this, knew I shouldnt of even opened the DME up. Thanks guys.

Solder the leg back together if there is enough leg to solder to.

Thank you JMD. I thought about doing that, but figured that there would be some excess, and the chip wouldnt sit flush, so i didnt do it. Will try it out tommorow, thanks again.

Clean up both ends of the joint lightly with very fine sand paper. "Tin" both ends of the joint by adhering solder to both ends before even trying to join the ends. Once there is a thin cover of solder on both ends, then join the ends, reheat the solder on both ends while ading a tiny bit of extra solder if necessary and let it cool.

If the end of the leg on the chip is long enough, apply a hemostat to it to act as a heat sink and protect the chip from heat. Don't solder the hemostat to the leg.
