need torque tube
During a 5-3 downshift on the track a couple weeks ago, my 944 made an ominous "snap" and rolled to a stop. Inspection revealed that three out of the four bolts that hold the trasaxle to the torque tube were gone
The whole thing was thus able to flop around enough to cause the driveshaft to snap. I'd be mad at my mechanic for evidently forgetting to torque those bolts when the box was out over the winter, but I see him whenever I look in the mirror, and he has enough problems. Anyway, I need a rebuilt torque tube. Anyone have one or know the best source? I'm in Seattle. Terry ![]()

You were the yellow 944 at the BMW event at PR right? That's a lot better than a whole gearbox, but I would be worried about bearings.

That was me./Users/terry/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2007/May 5, 2007/DSCF1810.JPG
The transaxle itself feels fine--tight with no free play. It worked fine right up until the driveshaft snapped. In any event, I'll fix the torque tube first and see how she runs. Terry |

Bummer. I tossed out a few torque tubes a year or two ago when I downsized my shop space.

You can get a rebuilt TT unit from Parts Heaven.. I bought mine for $550.00. Just make sure that whatever route you take that the shaft is straight, the splines and drive shaft collars are good. It's a big job and you will not want to do it again.
