Alternator wire question

Hi,

My alternator blue wire is not getting power. The alternator does not charge unless I run a jumper wire to the battery to give it signal. The light on the dash is on whether the car is charging or not

I am assuming that the light on the dash has one side connected to 12v and the other side connected to the alternator. That is how I am accustom to these things working.

The question is, where can I track down that wire at. Can someone tell me where under the dash I might intercept it.

Thanks

Ed

the wire comes from the connector at position D terminal 2 on the backside of the fuse /relay panel under the dash (blue wire) and it goes to term 11 on the backside of the generator/parking brake/turn signal/fuel indicator light gauge. power for the light comes from ignition switch term 15 black wire, then into gauge at pin 7. Check the blue wire from the circular connector with it disconnected from the alt D+ to ensure that it isn't grounding.

if you have a fuse panel problem take wire from c2 (blue/white) to d2 (blue) to bypass the direct interconnection made in fuse block

Ed,
I looked at your signature line and your auctions. What year 944 series is the problem with the alternator?

Huh. Need to add to my sig.

It is an 86 NA that I have converted into a 944Cup race car. Planning on debuting this weekend at Mid-Ohio.

So, I disconnected the D+ connection at the alternator and checked for continuity to ground. It is not shorted to ground.

I then pulled the fuse box up and checked for continuity to the D terminal 2 and I do have continuity to it.

I checked for continuity to every wire running to the dash and did not find continuity. It appears that I have an issue between the fuse pannel and the dash.

I can not figure out which wire it is on the dash. You say term 11. Is the wire still blue at that point ? I could not find a blue wire in any terminal that I could say was 11.

Thanks

Ed

sorry what I sent is for early 85 and before
---------------------------------------------------
blue from d+ goes into fuse panel at e15 out at d44 to terminal#61 (pin 8) of alarm control unit, then from (pin7) it also is terminal #61 but the wire color turns to yellow/red and wire then goes to pin 4 right plug of instrument cluster.

pin 3 and 4 (plug right) on cluster(pin3 is black/white) (pin4 is yellow/red)

pin3 should have 12v (ignition switch terminal #15/same as term#15 on ign coil) pin 4 should continuity to alt D+

SEE IF THIS HELPS

(if the alarm control unit has been removed that may be one reason (if so tie pin 8 to pin 7)... black/white wire from dash goes to fuse box and connects internally to ignition line
