Air Condition Problem Pt.2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I recently tried to re-fill my AC system. i have a problem: 1. i plugged the connector into the input by the compressor. 2.i then turned the knob on the refridgerant, the carv ac was running full blast and the refridgerant can became a popsicle. 3. i let it run for ten minutes and felt no change inside of the car. 4. i figuered it was through. i released the hose and closed the knob on the can. the can was a bit cold but not like before. i removed the hose attachment from the can and refridgerant blasted into the air and the can became frozen again. i don't think anything went into the ac system. what did i do wrong????

Work safely when handling refrigerants! Safety glasses and gloves.
Only a small amount of refrigerant went in the system when the can froze up. To prevent the can from freezing, either you submerge it in a container of water or use a water hose and spray the can with water. I just normally use the hot air from the radiator fan to warm it up. When the can freezes, the liquid refrigerant will not boil off any vapor. Since you are charging vapor, and no vapor is boiling off inside the can, there is no refrigerant going into the system during charging.

What refrigerant are you using? You are charging with the can bottom side up, right? |

i am using freeze 12. the can's top is up and i do two things. "close" the screw to put the pin into the can's openning and then i screw counter-clockwise to let the freeon out. is the screw supposed to be turned all the way or half-way?
i just decided not to go through with the freeze 12 and stick to 134. it is much easier to find!

none of the freeze 12 got in. the can froze immediately and the connection to the system stayed warm. anyway, it states on the freeze 12 homepage, that it can be mixed with 134 w/o a problem. anyway, i don't want to keep on mailing away for the stuff.

If you want to do it right, you have to decide which refrigerant to use, open the system, flush and put in the correct oil then start over by evacuating the system.

This thread is exactly why I tell people to take their cars to certified professionals for A/C work.

You probably hooked the charge hose up backwards. Look at the charge hose, the end with the, what's a good way to describe it, the schrader valve depressor, that end has to connect to the compressor side. If your can tap has a schrader valve inside it going to the charge line, you are left with two options. Get a charge hose that has the depressor on both ends, or remove the schrader valve from the tap.

you better draw yourself a pic of what you're trying to explain because it doesn't sound like he's got a manifold set and is charging directly from the can and what you're saying doesn't make a lot of sense.

I know, but if you have seen as many different charge hoses as I have, you'd understand. Carry on.

. r-12 spins on the fitting, collapses the schraeder valve, 134 snaps on.
