connecting sterring shaft

so after all the assembling and putting things back together i completely overlooked the steering shaft.......

is there a easy way to reattach it with everything bolted up or do i have to take the cross member back down to connect it?

Loosen the rack, unbolt it if you have to. It'll slide in. Cross member can stay put.

Hold on, I see you have an 83, and just automatically assumed you had a manual rack, which hopefully you do. If so, see above.

Push the rack up into place. Install the two mounting bolts just a few threads in place. Leave the two driver side bolts out. Reach up and grab the steering shaft. Slide the steering shaft into the back of the rack while pushing the rack towards the back of the car. Install the bolts for the steering shaft to 22 ft/lb.

There is no reason to drop the crossmember for this, the rack comes off and it can be lowered then install the steering shaft onto it while you re-install it. Super easy job actually (spoken as a guy who has forgotten this exact thing twice now)
