Question about clutch
 

I am in the process of changing the clutch on my newly purchased 87 944. It has been pretty easy so far with no major headaches. I took the clutch housing and pressure plate off in one piece like schumi did in the other thread then I beat out the pivot shaft to release the pressure plate from the housing cover. Now new disc is installed, pressure plate is bolted to the engine. My question is: How do I reinstall the pilot bearing fork and pivot shaft with the cover bolted in the car? Do I hold the fork in place through the little hole the slave cylinder bolts to and beat the pivot shaft back through it? Sounds impossible. What is the proper procedure for this?

Yo James,

1. remove the bell housing
2. With fork inside bell housing, slide fork on to the TO bearing
3. hold in place through inspection hole while you push bell housing on
4. slide in fork rod

OR another explanation:

Install the release lever and clutch housing together on the engine release bearing, with cup on release lever facing slave cylinder opening. The two forks at end will fit under release bearing edge. Hold the lever through the slave cylinder opening while aligning. (You will understand this better when you do it.) Make sure that the bonded bolt on the flywheel is facing down. This will prevent damage to the reference transmitters
