Aftermarket alarm/power door locks
I'm having trouble with my power door locks and installing an aftermarket alarm. The door locks will sometimes unlock just after locking or vice versa. Other times I will lock the car and come out a while later to find out the car is unlocked. The factory installed alarm functions just fine and the actuators do not seem to be firing at different times. Fuses are fine so maybe the central locking relay is acting up? The aftermarket alarm mentioned below is not hooked up when this is happening so it is not some conflict causing the problem.
I'm also trying to install an aftermarket alarm and I'm having trouble with the factory alarm. I would prefer that both alarms work along side one another but I would settle for disabling the factory alarm so that I could use the aftermarket alarm. The trouble is that I cannot disable the factory alarm with the clarks garage guide as I have a different alarm unit model. I would even be fine if I could somehow disable the factory alarm siren/horn but I cannot figure it out. I have disconnected the horns, all relays, fuses, etc related to the alarm and the horn still blares when I'm working on the alarm. This is further complicated with the doors locking and unlocking as they keep the alarm constantly on sometimes. Any ideas on how to disable the factory alarm? Has anyone succesfully installed an aftermarket alarm in their car? I would prefer someone that did it themselves and could tell me the wires to use as I'm not having luck with the 12volt or other wiring diagrams I have found. Everything seems to be hooked up correctly but locking/unlocking the doors triggers the factory alarm. I do not have the lock/unlock mixed up. Sometimes I will try to unlock the doors with the aftermarket alarm and it will unlock once but then only lock, no more unlocking. Ideas? I have no idea what is going on. The alarm is generic, the same one I have installed on 5 other cars with no problems but none of them had a factory alarm installed. Thanks in advance. |

The basic concept behind door alarms is to create an electrical circuit. In some cases, the circuit is closed when the door is closed. This allows electricity to flow back and forth between the two contact points. When the door is opened, the circuit is broken and the alarm sounds. In other cases, the opening of the door actually closes the circuit, sounding the alarm. pinnacle security

yu want to install an aftermarket and run in paralele with the factory?
why? ive had an aftermarket clifford fitted, but it works along side the porsche immboiliser. However had loads of problems about 4 years leater so removed that as well. As for the cen.lock, try this fix with both doors closed 9and you outside) lock and un-lock the doors 3 times (without opening) give a few secs in between , then try sometimes the cen mod gets screwey Quote:

I installed a Viper alarm/remote start on my car this past spring. It mostly works fine in parallel with the factory alarm, however it will not remote start with "both" alarms armed. Lock/unlock is fine though. I used 12volt.com's wiring info.
