Do you still have the hose connected from air filter housing to the cam/balance cover? Looks like part of the cam or balance belt teeth. I think I'd pull the cover and check both belts. How is your car running? I hope I'm wrong in my thinking.

already put it all back togeather. car runs ok. has the typicle fludder at idle. drives fine.

This is the car you just bought? It could be left over from the PO not cleaning everything out. Did you check the air filter before you bought the car?

belt teeth.

Yeah, it sure looks like belt teeth. Odd how belt teeth could get into the air filter, unless you don't have the snorkel in place and it's pulling air from the engine compartment. Regardless, I'd be pulling that timing belt cover before I drove it again . .

Yup. Belt teeth. Now THERE'S a scare!

ya, im at work doing my show. im going to walk home and get the blazer and pull the belt cover off up here this evening. the filter bolts were stripped out and rusted. the filter was nasty. Im hoping it was from the PO who did say he changed the belt 5k ago "and just in the nick of time" so it may be left over. i didnt check the filter at time of purchase due to the screws being stripped and being limited on tools. we were in a parking lot late at night.

if you're lucky (and you probably are, since the car has been running fine), that's from the PO's old balance belt and not the current timing belt, and the filter just hasn't been changed due to the circumstances you mentioned above. im interested in the belt inspection :-D |
Ok, i inspected the belt. Looks fine. i have laundry to do now. ha!
|
excellent. now, i hope you did get a new filter in there, yes?
|
n my way now to go get wiper blades, filter, tire foam...
|

Ask for it at your local autozone, they'll know. It's usually right by the Seasonal Tire Air. Or you can probably get it online at http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_ id=45 |
