Warning Buzzer Question

I am curious to know what functions the warning buzzer (Relay?) in the fusebox of late 944's has.

My car seems to be missing this from spot #12 in the fusebox. I know there is a door gong that goes off when the door is open, obviously mine does not do this, but what other functions does this serve?

What i am really interested in knowing is if there is a headlights-left-on or a key-left-in-the-ignition warning.

Thanks

I noticed it also says "catalytic warning relay." What does this mean?

Does anyone know where a good place to find this relay would be? I'm tired of locking my keys in the car. Is there an equivalent Volkswagen or Audi Part that can be picked up for cheap? I'm trying to find one locally with no luck so far.

Thanks in advance.

This buzzer annoyed me in my race car, so I pulled it out. If your late 944 uses the same relay as my '83, you're welcome to it... it's part # 171 919 433, with a VW / Audi logo on it. I'd rather give it to someone who wants it, than to send it off to the landfill.

Hi, The buzzer part # is 944-615-119-00, The same one is located in G1 of the fuse box.

Cheers,
Larry

My buzzer is sometimes very low and other times loud...think this is a grounding issue or the buzzer about to fail?

I am missing the gong/cat warning. Previous owner must have removed. I looked up the part #928-618-102-03 and boy that is one spendy buzzer, $180. Ouch. Wish he would have just thrown it in the glove box..

I took another look and it looks like I am missing the Relay at G8 and at G16. On the fusebox lid it says that G8 is the "Warning Buzzer" and G16 is the "Gong / Catalytic warning." What does each of these relays do exactly? What I'm really interested in is getting the headlight-on and the key-in-the-ignition buzzer working again. I tried putting the relay from G1 in the spot at G8 to see what happens and nothing.

Thanks again.

the relay itself has the buzzer in it - no relay, no buzzer. I took mine out because the buzzer is annoying and it's pretty hard to accidentally leave the lights on, since they tend to stick out when they're on

That buzzer also let's you know when your cat converter goes bad. When my cat clogged up on me, I could not start the car up without having that buzzer go off the whole time the car was running. Yeah! It's annoying but it will let you know if you are having air flow, exhaust issues.

Does anyone know if the relay is the same for both early and late 944s?

I couldn't tell you, but if you just want to find out if yours will work with one in I'm happy to let you swap my relays in to see what happens. Lemme know.

So this buzzer is also used to for the catalytic converter warning as well? I'm just curious, how does it sense that the catalytic converter is bad?

weird...my 87 951 won't let me lock the drivers door without using the key from the outside...has definitely saved me from locking my keys in there.

I'm missing the relay as well - if anyone has a working extra laying around I'll take it and pay you fair price. PM me...

G16 is the relay position. It is an expensive relay new.
Takes care of key in ignition, driver's door open, blinkers left on and driver's seat belt not clicked in for the first ten seconds or so. Part number 928.618.102.03 for late 944n/a and the 1984/1985 model

Hope this helps.
