alt charges for a 1/2 second, then not, then so, then not...so on
 

I've noticed an odd issue with my 951S: My charging needle will dance between 12.5v & 13.5v, as if the alternator charges for 1/2 a second then not, then again...etc. The needle dances about 2 times a second.

It really IS doing this as the dash/headlights will brighten/dim with the dancing of the needle, though ever so softly.

I replaced my alt last year about this time with a rebuild. Anyone have any thoughts??

Regulator has gone south.

mounted to the alt, integrated within the alt, or mounted somewhere else?

Mounted on the back of the alternator, includes brushes for the commutator.

well, my alt is under warranty, so I have another coming.
