How to clean up cookie cutters?
 

I am thinking about cleaning up my dirty/ ugly looking cookie cutter wheels. They are black, with some rust starting to show, dont know if the paint is thin there, or the rust is over-top the paint. I am thinking about re-spraying them black with some gloss over top. Using some degreaser to clean the inside of the wheel. I dont know how to shine up the chrome lip. Sand? Buff with some steel wool? Any help with cleaning up the wheels woulld be a great help.

What I've learned from refinishing fuchs is to polish the lip first, the tape and paint the centers......
I used sandpaper a too much elbow grease to polish the lips......start off with a heavy grain then work it up to 1200 wet.....then some wenol polish (or something similar)......I'd recomend clearing over the polished lip when you're done or the shine will go away every few weeks.......

Pretty interesting to have aluminum Cookie Cutters rusting.....

I've refinished several wheels with rattle cans. As long as the prep is done well, the paint lasts. I've even done some sloppy prep for wheels used for racing, and they have still stood up suprisingly well.

Sounds as if you don't have much experience. The link below will give you a lot of help. Read the forum and Tech Section. Look at the various products and figure what you need. A hand drill is a must have item.

Wash Rims

remove the tires if possible...if not TAPE WELL AND LOTS OF IT!!!

tape the center black part up really precise and close.

use aircraft paint remover (USE GLOVES AND MASK) this will remove the factory clear coat on them!

use steel wool pads to remove all coating and gunk

use wire brushed in the tough spots.

polish REALLY well! some people wet sand, some dont. one REALLY shiny you can either leave it as is, and do the center black work (touchup color and such), or you can re clear coat!
