dead 94 968
A friend lost control of his 94 cab in the rain and totaled it out. Hit in the rear quarter and bent the frame. It has near 100,000 miles on it and everything else is in great shape. It was mine for a while and was reliable (and a blast to drive!).
So, here's my question: Is it worth $3500 to buy and part out? Dave C |

I would say it depends on the engine and tranny. If they are good condition and you can find someone who want them, that could make up the money right there... Then there are all those small other pieces that sells well (door handles and mirrors). If you are able to do all the work yourself, and part it out, you may make a few bucks. Overall I wouldn't expect to see lots of money from it. You would do lots of work to get very little...

I just went through this. I'm still looking to buy an engine for transplant in my 84 and someone here said a 968 engine with 68K would sell for around 4200$ complete. I didn't want to insult the guy selling it but I would have paid 2 grand no questions. Because someone here told the guy it was worth more, it went on e-bay and sold for mebbe 1400$? No way the car is a good buy in today's market. Offer him 2k, mebbe 2500$.

it's a demand thing - they won't sell many, but when they do, it's a boatload more than a 944 engine - these things are pretty rare
same goes for the transaxle too if you have the time and space, you can make money on it |

The engines and trans are rare.... blocks are getting harder to find everyday. If the car is not too far gone and been setting out in the weather uncovered it might be worth having a go at..... of course I would come in with a low offer.
If someone purchased a complete 968 motor with 68K mile on Fleabay for $1400 bucks.... one of two things happened ... Sold stole it or the go really screwed! |
