Detonation /Pinning

I have been chasing a weird issue. the car seems rich at idle and lean in the upper RPM's last night I was coming home from work and really got on the car. up above 4000 rpms it started to detonate and the car seems to fall off in the upper rpm range it even sounds different like louder this was after a hour of stop and go traffic. I pulled my plugs and they are white as the day I put them in, they have about 2000 miles on them. I also checked the afm temp sender about a 1/2hr after I shut the car of I got a reading of .98ohms then I waited 3 hrs it was about 56 deg out and I got a reading of 2.58 ohms also on my way to work this morning when the car wasn't quiet up to operating temp I got on it and no detonation and seem to pull through the RPM range better. this is driving me mad

The AFM rebuild has been a real help for a lot of people on here lately. It seems as though a lot of these cars are wearing out the resistor strip in the AFM.

Hotter temperature increases the likelihood of detonation, as would a bad batch of fuel.

What black plug are you referring to (how many pins)?

I believe it is a "test" plug of some sort. But I don't recall exactly what it is for, other than that.

I have seen many pics on here of the DME area with the same wire harness left unplugged in all of them.
