How long are torsion bars?
Are all 944 NA torsion bars the same length?
I have read they are 26 -9/16" and that some VW parts will match. Would these work on my 84? Not sure if the splines are the same. http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C12%2D6569%2D28&CartID=1

All 944 torsion bars are the same length, and differ in diameter depending on year and option (M030, etc.).
The key is to get the correct splines on them. They are compatible with some VW bars from certain year baja bugs I believe- the 1200 series. I just do not know weather or not they have the same splines. I researched this a while back looking for big track car torsion bars. I found a page with info on this but I need to re-find it. I'll post back when I find something..

Those will work. . .guess where Porsche dipped their fingers to get 924 t-bars? Specs never changed, thru 968.

Thanks. I'll call them first though. Is there a socket diameter or spline count I should ask for?

All the VW "IRS" t-bars will work, as long as they are the correct length. Splines, etc, are all the same, 76 924 thru 95 968.

update to save someone else a headache later....
The t-bars from CIP1 aren't an exact match. The difference is the length of the splines on the outside end of the bars. There are about 1/2 inch more splines on these bars. Why is that a problem? It's not, unless your doing the hole-saw-in-the-rocker-panels method and removing the end of the t-bar cover to just insert the new bars from the outside. There's no way to seat the inside splines first because the outside start in the grooves first. My shortcut and money savings has taken twice as long and cost more than the correct bars!

Why not try Sway-away bars? I picked up a set of 1228s and 1226s on e-bay for $140 a while back. They area direct fit.

Wow, never saw that one coming. At least you get to pull the suspension to install proper bushings!
