Oil Cooler Early seals?
So i got the oil cooler kit from pelican. Question is Do i use the Plastic washer for the early Oil Cooler Housing that comes in the kit. There was not a Plastic washer when i took out the oil cooler. Shop manuel shows the Original Design (a) and New Design (b) So im asuming No plastic seal with old design and Plastic washer with new design?

I didn't use them. You still have the metal shims, right?
|
I just took mine off about an hour ago. It had no washer either (83' 944). I got a shop manual when I bought it in '83, ..it shows no washer and no alignment tool either.

Ok Great, I took off the plastic washer because it made the cooler lean to the side. And it needed only 1 shim goin to put on the second one and re-measer. didnt have a straight edge so i used a Disk lol

Correct. Go by the factory manual. The old housings will have a raised area surrounding the hole that the cooler boss sits in and does not use the plastic washer. The late housings are smooth and need the plastic washer.

It was a little sketchy for a while as i wasen't sure about the plastic washer. So i installed the Oil Cooler seals Torqed them to 20nm(15ft lbs) if i rememember corectly, installed the oil filter put the heat sheild back on. Took a moment to rest and admire my work..... and then i saw the BLACK SEAL on the floor, Guess I should have used grease to hold it lol. Put some grease on the Black Seal. Installed and uninstalled a few times as it was kinda High and offset on the side of the Black Seal. Took a few mins to get the alignment tool not to jam. Boom now its done.
PS: I could not imagen how un centered it would have been with out the Alignment tool. I deffinately recomend on buying it as it makes install 200% easier at its only about 27$ priority mail from our host. |
I borrowed a tool from a friend, but it didn't work, guess it was for the newer style. Anyway, using a magnet and the sleeve was easy enough. Glad you got it done, good job!

Ezra, is this the alignment tool you used?

Mattdavis11, how did you use a magnet with respect to aligning the OPRV?
|
Yup that's the one for years 83-86 worked out great and it a heavy solid tool. Has a nice cross hatch design on the top of the tool so you can get a solid grip. Took me a few tries to make sure I was able to spin it freely and not jam up but.... Like BORAT say " That's a-Nice"
