Removing fuel injector cap without breaking
So I found that a fuel injector was spraying due to a tear in an injector o-ring. I need to replace one injector o-ring. I have a few o-rings lying around.
The only problem is removing the injector cap without cracking or breaking it. I've removed the old ones before and I broke each one while doing so. Mind you I was not being careful since I was replacing them anyway. Has anyone successfully removed a cap without breaking it? |
i got replacement o-rings and hats at pep boys. $6 or so for 4 injector

$6? wow that's a good deal...much better than $28 plus shipping on rennbay that I paid! I guess I'll go for these if I break the cap. Do you have any info on the caps and o-rings for the 944? part number? internet link? Thanks kidd

I wonder if applying a small amount of heat (like from a blow dryer on low setting) might allow the cap to relax a little so I can persuade it off gently. I'm assuming this could warp the cap but it's worth a shot right?
Could this heat hurt the injector? I mean, it does sit right above the engine so it must undergo some heat right? |

I went to a VW parts house (BAP) and picked up a set for 1 injector for $5. |
Here is the link. There are a few injector kits there that dont have prices, but they may be cheaper. I got the $1.99 ones (4 all together)

just got it off without breaking it! I cut the o-ring off with an exacto knife, then took a pair of needle nose and pulled up on the plastic washer and it popped off with a good amount of force.
Time to lube the hell out of them and get that back into the car! |
