Later engine in early car

I'am in the process and swapping 89 2.7 in early ROW 85 car,can anyone tell what the 4 wire connecting block near the ecu plug is for?it is about 60mm long and about 10mm wide and has provision for 8 wires but only 4 are connected.
I'am presuming it goes to the instruments?.
Are there any other issues using this loom in an early car?
Don't want to use early loom if possible ,thank you.
