Thumbs up March 6th, 2010 - Southeast Porsche 944 Rally!

Aponte Studios, N-Tech Racing, and Fizer Racing proudly presents the first annual Southeast Porsche 944 Rally, located in Orlando Florida on Saturday March 6th, 2010!

Saturday - The event will consist of an afternoon loaded with 944 excitement! First we will meet at 11:30am on top of a parking garage with a scenic view of downtown Orlando, and some of the nicest 944's in the southeast. We will then take a short highway cruise on I-4, followed by a grand tour of Central Florida's most twisty and fun to drive backroads. After the rally, we will stop to eat a late lunch, where a few 944 spec race cars and other surprises will be on display!

*Starting meet up location is: 800 North Magnolia Ave. Orlando, FL 32803
*Final lunch spot destination is: Cracker Barrel, 1520 East Highway 50, Clermont, FL 34711

Sunday - This is optional. There is a local autocross event, hosted by Martin Sports Car Club (MSCC) on March 7th in Taveres, FL. More details to come soon.

Don't miss your chance to attend this once per year special event. It is the only event in the Southeast United States dedicated to these model Porsches. Even if you don't own a Porsche, everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the sights and sounds of Central Florida and a whole lot of Porsches! This event is FREE, but please bring enough money for lunch, and remember to gas up before arriving.

If you are planning on attending, please let me know so that I can estimate how many cars and people will be there.
Also, if you are from another city or state, and would like to cruise with other 944's on the way over, please let me know so I can connect you with other participants from your area!

Drive safely, and see you on March 6th!

Terry - sounds great! There should be a few guys headed from your area. If I know who's going for sure then I will get them in touch with you..!

Byron - I hope you can make it! You may even know some of the 944 racers that will be there. Kip VanSteeburg, Nick Riefner, maybe Jim Clark... to name just a few. You are in the Jax area too I believe, you could head down with the other guys from that area!

new to 944's

This sounds like a great way to spend the day so count me in... Would prefer to caravan down to Orlando so PM me with a potential meeting place.

I have just purchased my first 944 (1 week ago) so sounds like a great way to find out what I've really gotten myself into. I'm in the Fleming Island area and would appreciate any good suggestions for a Porsche repair shop in Northeast Florida...

I'm just up the road Orange Park, but use to live off Pine. Only a few shops that are good, but none that are cheap.. What does your car need??

Welcome to Pelican!

I will send you a PM in a few days with the Jax meetup location.

In the mean time, tell us about your new car!

Well, that's what I was saying a couple years ago before this got started! And every year its just been growing and growing.

If nobody wants to start a meet or any kind of event in your area, then you gotta step in and start something up! Our first meet started with 6 944's at a local Hooters and now has evolved into this.

Yea well I have to to rebuild my car first. But maybe after that I will. I love these cars and want to chill with other 24/44/68/28 owners. I went out with some 911 guys but its not the same. Fun. But not the same.

Byron, Terry and Elliot:

Thanks for your responses. My car is a little unique in that my brother-in-law was being forced to downsize his project cars so I got his 85.5 n/a for the cost of a ride on a auto transport truck from California to Florida 2 weeks ago (and also tickets to the upcoming Daytona 500 race for him and I .

The transplanted '89 S2 engine was completely rebuilt 1300 miles ago as well as most of the suspension components being replaced in the past year. He put a couple of solid years of his labor into this car but he recently got sidetracked with his 1957 Chevy restoration, a small block Chevy squeezed into a Karmen Gia project and his recent LS2 Corvette purchase.

So I now have his hand-me-down and cant be more pleased. Appears to need some sunroof troubleshooting, weatherstripping and some interior TLC but mechanically seems to be strong with no issues. It appears to have spent its whole life in the desert outside of Los Angeles since it was new. I am ready for some day trips and see what it can do...

By the way, my brother-in-law is probably the only person I know that traded a 1960-era Shelby Cobra a few years back for a cool looking airplane from the 1950s (he's also a pilot).

Appreciate the offer... I really need to push myself into learning this stuff rather then taking the easy road ... But I may abuse your generous offer later. Still discussing with my wife why her Avalon is sitting on the driveway while this 25 year old car is tucked away into a nice & warm garage...

I've always been far more interested in electronics, computers and a number of other things but now its time for learning something new with all but one kid out of the house.

Looking at these threads, very amazed (and impressed) with the all of the expertise out there when one gets stuck.

You've got a beautiful collection of vehicles... thanks for sharing the pic.

I was also wondering when (and where) the big one is for the northeast. Jersey would have been nice, since I am in eastern PA. I'm surprised that there isn't a big one close to the NYC area. So, logically, it must be near the Boston area. But that's too far for me to want to go. Is there a big one for the area between the NE and the mid-atlantic states? If so, where (and when) is it held?

Update!

There will be someone at the final stop, parting out a red S2 with lots of aftermarket parts, if anyone needs anything.
