Muffler with stock/quiet sound

Hi All,

I just bought my 944 three weeks ago and am trying to do some things to get it in order. Reading this forum has been very helpful, but I haven't found the exact answer to this issue. The PO installed a very loud and throaty muffler. It's just too loud. I am looking to replace it with one that a) has a quiet or stock-like sound and b) isn't too expensive. I'm not looking for the cheapest possible muffler but one of decent quality that won't break the bank.

Thanks!
Peter

shop on craigslist for someone selling a OEM muffler and weld it on :P

i used a 4g Mitsu Eclipse muffler. sounds hush quiet and not too restrictive. 2.5 in 3 out.

Around here we call that a fart pipe. +1 for wanting to get that off of there.

peterpa5,

The Porsche muffler and pipes are stainless steel, excellent quality.

I do not see your location but there are many used and not rusted available.

I have a stock muffler on the '88 and its "quiet"
The '87 is a little throatier. I can hear the car come up the road.

Many sellers on eBay motors.
plyhammer and porscheracer usually list quite a few items.

Go with a good used as mentioned.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll look into getting a used OEM muffler as a replacement. I'm outside of Philadelphia by the way.
