What is this tool for

Here is a little test. 21mm socket held with vice grips, Inside is a short 1/4 extension with a 13mm socket.



Anyone know??

Top strut nut..... Made one myself, now I use an O2 sensor tool. ;-)

yes I suppose (assuming the sizes are right) I could use it for that. The tool was used for something else.

That's a great idea. I just use an impact wrench these days but there are many times out at the wrecking yard and I'm collecting a set of Koni's of Bilsteins for eBay. There's been a few times I had to give up on my gound treasure.

There is also the sunroof clutch tension, but I forgot what the socket sizes were. I want to say there was one other time I used that method but I can't think of it.

Yes, Sunroof clutch adjustment. I did a search and found a post from 2003 mentioning this method. Other methods included grinding down wrenches to make them thinner but this seemed like an easy solution. And best yet it works.

Yeah, 2003 is about the time I fixed mine and it worked flawlessly up until a month ago when I tore the whole thing out of the car. I even used a microtork torque wrench to properly set the tension. Now I miss the power sunroof :-(

Yeah, I ground down a wrench to thin it down. If I had to do all over again I would have bought a 13mm bicycle wrench. Not sure how your tool works - both of my clutch nuts were 13mm.

the 21mm held the large nut while the 13mm loosened off the nut that sets the tension. By turning just the 13 mm alone it would spin the motor and the sunroof would raise or lower. I had to stop the 21mm from turning. The tool holds the 21mm nut while the socket inside was free to turn and loosen the nut.

So far so good, I adjusted the tension without a torque wrench (neither of mine went that low) but set it loose so it would just spin then slowly tightened it until the clutch would no longer slip.

I am definately missing something, even after reading on Clarks and the factory manual. I have a torque wrench that goes that low. How do you set the torque. It says to use the 21mm to check with the lift partially up, but obviously when I turn the nut the cable drive moves. Mine is definately too tight as it took out the gears. Can someone help me with a little more explanation?

Sunroof adjustment??? You just turn the latches 90 degrees and push up.

isn't it 180 degrees to prop the roof up? no adjustment required or special tools.

What I do is loosen it until it slips and can't raise the roof and then tighten it bit by bit until it can (I don't use torque wrench for this).

That seems like good sense to me gtroth. Makes more sense than what I have read up to now!
