dome light/chime problem
 

Heya all,
I've got a problem with my dome light that I've been racking my brain with. When the passenger side door is opened all of the lights come on as they're supposed to. The driver's side door doesn't turn on the lights at all.

Sounds like that little push switch in the door jam right? Wrong. Opening the driver's side door results in a "you've left your keys in the ignition" chime regardless of whether or not the keys are in the ignition.

Any ideas? Any information on how the dome light & door chime systems work would be helpful.

Also, has anyone gotten the electric lock kit from performance products?

Hey Duke take the ground wire off the battery and remove the driverside door light switch make shure it is in good condition and that there are atleast 2 wires attached to it, it sounds like one of the wires may have fallen off also if you like replace the lil switch with a new one, this should fix the problem........Stan

Hmm...my door sensors haven't worked in over a year. Meaning, the dome light doesn't turn on unless you manually flip the switch, and the headlight chime never works at all. (It's not a huge inconvenience, though I did leave my fog lights on once at the mall and had to get a jump.)

Any ideas on where the problem might be in my case? I don't think it's the sensor switch itself, because neither door will trigger the dome light, no matter which position the light switch is in. Maybe it's a relay?? All the fuses are connected and working.

Do you mean the sensor switch in the door jamb or the switch on the dome light itself? If it's the switch in the door jamb, would I have to replace them on both doors? Thanks-

I'd check out the switch in the door. It seems to me that the problem is somewhere that it can affect both the door chime and the light...which indicates that it's closer to the door.
I"m not familiar with the wiring on this stuff so take it with a grain of salt.

:p Hi Leigh, hey it might be time to remove your door jamb switches, disconnecto the battery first so you dont short out any of the wires......... the switch is a ground so after removing it you should be able to ground the brown wire that went to it and the interior lights should come on...... to figure out what position the light switch needs to be in close the doors and push the switch foward or back when the light comes on this is the manual turn on push the switch the other way then try grounding the wire also connecto your battery after you have removed the wires from the switch..... more than likley the switch is rusted or dirty or just needs replacing..... if the fuses are good and the light wont work then go to the light itself asnd remove it see if it has more than one brown wire attached to it ......it should......Stan

Thanks for all your suggestions. Hopefully the nice weather here on the east coast will hold out and I can get some work done this weekend. I'm planning to run new wiring and relays for my horn and headlights, so I'll give the door jamb switches a thorough look while I'm at it.

Okay, I'm having a similar problem with my car. I just got it back on the road, and with the new exhaust manifold, it's doing better than ever. Really, officer? Was I going that fast?

Anyways, my dome light always stays on if it's in the forward-most position. It's the switch on my driver's side; it only has one wire attached. My problem is that I don't know where the other wire is, or how to get to it. There are other wires back there in the hole, and there is one singular wire that is red/white (just like the attached wire). The only thing is that it is not "free." I don't want to pull hard on it unless I know FOR SURE that it is the other wire. Are both wires red/white?

Seems weird to me that positive and negative are the same color :) Thanks for the help!

Do '83's chime? If not then mine is fine! If it's supposed to, where is the chime located? A lot of stuff didn't work when I got it, but slowly she's getting back into shape.
