Thermostat - cooling fan -´90 S2

Hi,

My mechanic just changed water pump and belts and thermostat.

Before when the car was running at normal warmed up temperature the guage was at 1/4- the first line on the guage.

Now it is at 1/2 - in the middle at all time, and it seems that the fan is doing a lot more work than it did before.

My mechanic said that he had changed the thermostat to one with a better spec for our relative cold climate in Demnark.....hmmmm. I would rather have had the original instead. But the other one is in place now and it is obviously a big deal to change it!

Waht do you say....can I run ok with the one he installed?

Thanks!

The normal operating temp should be around the mid mark on the temp gauge - If the motor is running cooler you will not get as good mileage/combustion - So your mechanic did you a favor there (Or so it seems). See how it is on a warm/hot day in traffic as this would be the only difference if there it gets over to or close the limit.

A thermostat there is only to help the motor to warm up faster, and once the motor is at operating temp the thermostat is no longer in play. The thermostat will help keep the motor in the operating range.

There is also a Fan switch thermostat that can be changed for different temps - both of the thermostats (Fan switch and water pump thermostat) should be matched for optimum operation.

Mine floats between the first white line at 8 o'clock and the 10 o'clock line.

Sounds normal to me.

If its going over 10 o'clock and approaching the red zone...not so good.
