Question Motor mounts

I'm looking at changing out my Motor mounts finally for a X-mas present to myself. I just called a shop that was recommended and got these prices.

Labor (3 hrs.) - 195
Mounts - 138 each

Is that fair? The labor seems fine but the mounts? I didn't think they cost that much. Anyways...if they are expensive..does anyone recommend a certian type and where to buy them?

Links would be nice :-) Thanks

I just saw these at lindseyracing.com

are these any good, or better yet has anyone used these before?

Replace those soft rubber engine mounts with solid 6061 T6 aluminum ones and get more power to the ground. Available in a purple anodized finish. 2 required. Fits all 944s and 968.

Part # LR-KRR-42 ~ $65.00 ea.

Hi Goku, hey I would just get the stock updated turbo mounts for your ride they are 89.00 bux a piece from Vertex and if you do a lil shopping you might find em cheaper........your shop is also charging you too much but they are there to make a buck.
I would get the mounts and take them to the shop and let them put them in if you dont wanna get dirty...... otherwise it means dropping the crossmember and supporting the engine while you remove the old ones............ at any rate use the updated turbo munts they will last longer........Stan

Vertex is a good source for the mounts. But the above post states the complicated way of replacing the mounts. I did mine myself took about an hour a side. I have a hoist, but I prefeer to put the front on jack stands, then use a jack and a block of wood to raise the motor from the bottom. Unbolt the mounts and slip them out. Dropping the crossmember is overkill.

Well, I live in an apartment with very few tools, so doing it myself isn't an option. The labor is normal prices, but the mounts did seem expensive. Thanks for the info, So the lindsey ones are crap??

On the turbo mine where a real pain in the butt. On the NA it took like 30 minutes total.

You can get mounts cheaper than $138 each if you go to the aftermarket ones. Actually even the Porsche ones should be less than that. we charge about that to install them so the labor is ok.

If you could change a pair of engine mounts in 30 minutes, you would be the star tech...because I've never seen it.

are you kidding britwrench? Just loosen two bolts and one nut on each mount and jack the engine up on an NA (at least my former 944S). Like I said, the turbo was much more involved.

yes, you do only have to remove two bolts and one nut, oh yeah and work round the power steering pump, remove the lower tray and heat shield and then lever the mount out and the new one in after loosening the cross member because the new, higher mount won't go in.
Sorry, two mounts in 30 min = not going to happen.

I need to change mine too,I'm kinda dreading it. I heard that for some people it is easy and for others it's a bit**. I'm pretty mechanically inclined.but I HATE doing mounts and exgaust manifolds.

I think you can get the turbo mounts on ebay for cheap. I got them from partsheaven for $75. They would be a pain to replace on their own, but I had to replace the crossmember, and it still was a ***** to do, especially getting them lined up to get the bolts in ... the results are very well worth it though ...

Oh, I forgot to mention, replacing the xmember took 3 WHOLE DAYS of work on my own at a friend's garage.

Brit, I did upgraded mounts in my 85 and did not have to loosen the crossmember at all. Even with the taller mounts I was still able to jack the engine high enough to slip them out and slip the upgrades in. And yes if you have done it before and already have the sheild off it can be 30 min per side.

Again i'm asking..are solid mounts bad? Are lindsey mounts any good. I've heard great things about their wastegates. What about the mounts?

The Kokeln mounts are good, but recommended for racing as it will be quite harsh. But they will never give out like the stock ones do.

138 per mount way to much

I would check excellence mag for these mounts. They are selling for $60-$65 in the best cases. Yes they are the upgraded 951 mounts.

Also it should take about 3 hours total if you include all the prep work and clean up. The actual work of putting in the mounts is not to bad. It is the removal of the old and getting enough stuff out of the way so that you can work... especially on the 951 and 944S2.

I have not personally changed them on those cars so I can not comment, but did both on my 924 and it was not to bad.

Eric
