Porsche Crest Need tire advice for '87 944S DE car

Last year I bought an '87 944S primarily for use as a PCA DE car, although I also use it as a weekend driver. The suspension has been upgraded with Koni coil-overs and camber plates and it has been corner balanced, so it handles very well. Sparco Evos and 6-point harnesses were installed 2 months ago. Now I need to look at upgrading the wheels/tires. It has the original phone dial 15 inch wheels with the standard tire size 215/60-15 and Michelin Pilots with good tread remaining. I am in the Blue run group and would prefer to go with high-performance street tires. Should I buy a set of 16-inch wheels or stay with 15-inch and what brand and tire sizes are best? The tread width of the 215/60-15 seems too narrow for optimum traction.

I can tell you what I will be doing with my S2.....

I have put together a spare set of 968 5-spoke wheels...all 8".

Planning to get a set of high-perf dual use (eg: street legal) dry weather tires like Dunlop Dirrezas which will go on these wheels...225/50/16 will probably be what I run all around.

They will get pulled to the track on my tire trailer and I'll keep my D-90's with Khumo all-seasons for the street.

944 spec cars run 225/50 R15 on 15x7's on all 4 corners. This nice tire size for the car and the tire prices are reasonable.

The downside is that these tires are small for a stock 944. They don't fill out the wheel wells very well. If you lower the car alot (about 2-3 inches) then they work well.

For a dual use car the best look is 16" for the street and 15's for the track.

Joe, i would run 245/45/16 (or a 40 profile) on your S2.. 225 is too narrow but good for the regular 8v n/a.

I ran 225/45/16 on all for corners when i auto-x'ed and DE'ed my n/a , worked very well for me and plenty of tire options available.
