more '83 944 questions

1. An '87 944S (the wrecker says it's an '86-no such thing?) has shown up in a wrecking yard here in Calgary. Any parts worth scoring off this unit that are upgrades for my '83? I already have the sport suspension option.

2. In an earlier post, I inquired about 8x16 Fuchs for the rear of the car (I have 7x16s all around) and I think I'm clear about which one will fit-the 8x16 from the rear of an '86 944T. Hopefully, I can find a pair for a reasonable price. However, if I decide to upgrade to the turbo brakes (I'm a hardware freak, I know I don't *need* them), will they fit this application? As I understand it, I'll need the calipers, rotors and front spindles from the same '86 944T.

3. Anyone have experience with the 930S steering wheel that AJ-USA sells? Seems a little pricey, but then so do pretty much all the fully padded models from Momo, etc.

4. Any recommendations for a small muffler/resonator to replace the cat? As my son is a welder, this seems a more cost-effective solution than buying a test pipe.

Thanks in advance.

-the aluminum suspension components would be a nice upgrade. if you like pwr steering, there's a swap.

-they'd fit, but n/a brakes a very adequite for the car. Try upgrading to ss brake lines and high-performance brake pads first.

something to replace catalyst?

well, if you want something simple... just get a straight pipe and weld it in. these are also called "test pipes" as it allows you to "test" the horsepower lost by using a catalytic converter. if you're worried about state inspection... i believe that there's a mitsubishi catalyst that fits the 944. i can't remember which mitsubishi it goes to, but it fits just fine.

as for the AJ USA steering wheel? it fits fine and it looks really nice! i personally don't like the look of the Momo wheels, my tastes are more Sparco or Nardi/Personal, but if you like them... go for it! the 930S one is really nice looking, and it has a more "sporty" appearance.

good luck!
