Three unknowns please ID
 

Hi,
I'm new here, and have an '83 944. Not running yet, but close. I've enclosed pics with this post. There's a line that tee's off from the brake booster hose and I don't know where it goes..Also, I have two pics of the air system. can you affirm that both of these ports are connected by one hose? One to the side of the box, the other underneath atop the engine. And, I have a third outlet barb on the water pump that I have no hose for and no obvious second port anywhere. Sorry, early vacuum systems I can't tell you about, but as for the rest of the pictures....the fitting on the side of the filter housing is for a breather.....it was blocked off at the factory on later cars. The fitting on the belt cover is also a breather, on my 89NA, it went to a fitting on the bottom of the air filter housing.
In your final picture, the fitting is for the thermostat for the cooling water for a turbo, what you have is the better later model turbo water pump. DO NOT remove the housing, as there is a hole behind it.

The opening at the top of the belt guards was a tube that went to the air box.
Get a couple of rubber chair or cain tips and cover the holes.
Porsche found out that water, oil and road dust was being sucked in to the engine and has a TSB (technical service bullitin) on the repair.
BTW-OEM rubber caps are about $9.95 each---go with chair feet.

And as mentioned, the white cap on the waterpump is the "block off plate/"O"ring. If you want to dress up the car get another cap for the block off plate.

Show us where the other side of the vacuum line hooks up.

Thank you all..This forum is so much better than one I previously tried to use:) I was wondering if the P.O. forgot to give a hose to me. To answer your question, the line I'm holding begins at that tee in the picture about three inches down the vertical booster hose, which I think is about 5/8" dia. The line is about 3 feet long, maybe 1/4" i.d. and I don't know where it gets routed and where the end I'm holding plugs into. There's a spring inside the red cap, and that's a piece of copper tubing between the hose end and cap. I've seen another engine pic and the line and tee are not there, so I don't know if it's something that was added for some reason or a different factory mod. Hope that helps..

coffeenudge _____ I'm sending you 3 engine bay pics taken from different angle of my ex 83-944 ,it migth useful for future reference ,mine had a cone filter but I recommend that you keep your OE air boxe & like John mention just plug the holes in the belts cover & the air boxe also sending you one of your water pump (turbo style with all associated parts) that will give you an idea what's in there.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1275328065.jpg

ernie, pls tell us more about your oil filter, that looks interesting

Great pics, thanks..."After further review", I can see where the boost vacuum hose was cut as the cut angles match either side of the tee (with no hose clamps) and the screwy thing at the end of the little hose was something the P.O. used to plug it. Goes along with his awful attempt at wiring I've had to pull out..but that's another story. I'm going to take care of these hose issues, get my relays back in, finish the oil change and have my wife stand out there with a fire extinguisher in one hand and cell pone in the other while I turn the key, LOL. I've changed the timing and balance belts, and other than some other wiring stuff I think I can get to later, I may have a runner. Cross your fingers!

This is a very strong magnet that goes on top of the oil filter to catch any particles that would happen to be in the oil.:D

That just takes all the fun out of it....
