Need a little more

Ok, heres what happened this afternoon, after pulling out of the parking lot of school me and my friend raced. I took off the line thanks to a good launch but his car pulled on me and he caught up and the race ended in a tie. I shifted a little early to third, but other than that I was wondering if taking off the airbox of my kn air filter would give me the little boost i need to beat him TOMORROW, or if anyone has any other reccomendations on some last minute tips so I can beat him.
Thanks.

Try setting timing & fuel on the DME. I think position 3 gives +3 degrees & richer in fuel (check prior posts by others & Motronic web searches to verify). Put about 4 - 6 PSI more air in front tires. Take off alt & AC belt for the run.

Don't race man. Show your car a little more respect than that. The 944na was never meant for drag racing. Their best attribute is their wonderful handling. My car does have a K&N air filter, and it might boost performance marginally, but mainly they are good because they are reusable.

By the way, what type of car does your friend drive?

Bob's944 12-17-2001 07:57 PM

No passenger, take out the passenger seat, rear seat back, spare tire and tools. Run the gas down to under 1/4 tank (octane booster can't hurt, but not too much). Shift right at redline in all gears..... oh yeah... and sneak out and let alil air outta each of yer buds tires before the race.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/nono.gif

I got some good advice...grow up. If you wanna street race then go buy yourself a honda.

Rob-O 12-17-2001 09:38 PM

Harsh, Rollins, harsh!

Completely gut the interior of the vehicle, leaving the big stereo and the two 12"'s, along with the Rockford amp on the curb. It'll be okay there, nobody will take it...promise. Pull your front and rear bumpers and put on primered fiberglass Euro copies. S**t can your sway bars, you don't need them for straight line performance. Take out the whole ventilation system, the windshield wipers, the door panels, all the glass (This is what God invented Lexan for), and everything electrical that you don't need. The sunroof has got to go, it weighs a lot! Of course we need to know how fast you plan on going, because at top speed it may actually hurt your coefficient of drag. Drop the entire exhaust, just run that puppy right outta the header. Peel off the carpeting inside. Buy some trailer lights and replace the stock taillamps. You could get a carbon fiber hood and just not paint it. That would be cool, but I think I've seen that before so it wouldn't be original. You absolutely must buy a "Type R" sticker for the vehicle and place it where everybody will see it.

I'm kidding. Let your bud go race somebody else. Spend your time paying lots of attention to the girls in your school, even the ugly ones. Ugly girls always have at least one hot girlfriend. You might not meet the hot girlfriend the first time you're being nice to some ugly girl, but someday you will and you might just hook up with her (heck, the ugly one may be hot someday!). And be nice, girls like that. Oh, and when you talk to them, don't talk about car stuff, they DON'T like that. Definitely don't try to be the player. Chicks can sniff this crap out by the time they're 10 years old.

In the long run, you'll be glad you spent the time with the women, and not out racing your buddy...

Rollins 12-17-2001 10:19 PM

Yes, definitely talk to the ladies instead of racing. Lots of guys are under the false impression that racing makes them cool in the eyes of the girls. I would rather tell my friends that I got some pussy than tell them I beat a honda in a race.

3sonfather 12-18-2001 02:38 AM

Bob-O, you forgot to tell the driver to drop maybe 100 lbs like those horse jockeys do. Also, get one of those spaghetti can mufflers to get that ricey sound affect going.

Eturbo924 12-18-2001 05:13 AM

Women..... much better option

Well weight out of the car is the easy way.
Air box won't do very much.

Take the others advice though and make this guy look stupid. Make it look like you are going to race and then let him abuse his car while you pick up some hot chick in your Porsche.

Along the same lines:
Have you guys seen the new T-Bird commercial? A sports car (RX-7, I think) pulls up next to a T-bird. Guys are driving the two cars, and in the Rx-7 is a beautiful woman passenger.

Just before the 'race' starts, the RX-7 driver makes the woman get out. They take off, except the T-bird doesn't move. Once the RX-7 is gone, the man asks the woman, "Need a lift?"

Maybe 84na944Calif can pull off something like that....

Eturbo924 12-18-2001 06:50 AM

It is a Lambo

I believe it is a Lambo.... not a RX7.
But point taken. My 924 did exactly that in high school. Never mind that it would not have been victorious in to many drag races ;)

Girlfriend liked being only Porsche woman in school. Would be lying if I claimed to be very popular though..... did not care anyway. Had my woman and my Porsche.:D

Z-man 12-18-2001 07:51 AM

Lambo...RX-7...one of 'them non-German sports cars.... ;)
They're all the same anyway.... (j/k)

About the commercial. Good thing I don't sick the Lotus List guys on you. They've spent a month bantering about the commercial and giving some critics hell. The car is a S4S, my next car!

Anyway, I like the idea of working on the chicks instead of dragging your car. I know plenty of smooth guys who drive complete beaters and get more tail than those who drive the high $ cars.

If you want to race get into autox or on the track and invite them!

Eturbo924 12-19-2001 04:42 AM

Oh

Hey if it is an S4S I am ... ashamed...

I only saw the comercial once a couple weeks ago and could not recall what kind of car it was for sure.... but knew it was not RX7

Sorry, sorry: I know: I should go out and hang myself for confusing a Lotus with an RX-7: I usually am not that bad. I just saw the commercial once, and I just turned 34, so my memory is starting to go......

Please forgive me guys: I won't ever make that mistake again...

/* edit: Lambo to Lotus */

944jeff 12-19-2001 07:44 AM

Here is the commercial, enjoy. The Lotus guys don't like being identified as drag racers either...

Yup lotus

Ah more clear now.
I heard a neighbor tell a story about drag racing one of those. This guy had a modified GMC cyclone. The Lutus pulled up next to him and said "want to have a go?" (using british accent.)

Well the light changed and the lotus spun tires while watching the cyclone disappear. When he finally caught up at next night.... lotus owns says "seems I underestimated your vehicle a bit"

Also in my younger days I raced a S4S with a Taurus SHO. This guy was a nut. Cut me off about 4 times durring the course of a 5 mile race up 495N. It was fun but crazy. Oh and yes he slowed after he blew past me in order to keep the racing going. I did manage to stay right on his rear end through the traffic to his surprise. Plus he was not a very good driver.

I know, I know.... Yes dumb, but I am older and wiser now... :D

david944 12-19-2001 05:38 PM

I hate to bug in but thats not an S4S. I believe they stoped making the S4 around 94 or 97. The one in the commerical is an V8 Twin Turbo. The S4 was a 4 cylinder.

Sorry, I'm an lotus expert. My neighbor had a 93 se. He sold it and now has a 98 V8 Twin Turbo.

And also, no cyclone or Taurus could touch a Lotus. Thats pure bull s**it.

But, in Ahmets favorite words "It's all the driver"

J1NX3D 12-19-2001 06:53 PM

If u want to pick up chicks, do it in style...

Actually, the syclone would embarass on old Lotus more times than not in the real world. I think they pulled 13 second quarters, or low 14s. The Lotus may pull similar times, but only with a perfect launch.

The difference being that your grandma could pull those times in the syclone and only a professional test driver could repeatedly pull those times in a Lotus.

My old buddy has a 600 hp typhoon (Jimmy version) that runs 11 sec consistently in the 1/4 and even that thing doesn't spin the tires too much.
