oil heat exchanger coolant flow
could anyone explain the coolant flow through the chamber where the oil heat exchanger is? I think I understand the flow of the oil through the "accordion" shaped exchanger and I assume the coolant flows around this exchanger (is these correct?). However, I cannot see an entrance or exit point for the coolant in and out of the chamber. any help or directions to a site that would clarify would be appreciated.
thanks...Jim |

Looking at the oil cooler chamber, the coolant ducts are at the upper left side nd the lower right side. If you remove the oil cooler, you can see the ducts easier. I believe the flow direction is in on the left (lower duct) out on the right (upper duct).

thanks for the reply.....are you looking at the chamber when removed?? or looking at the block?? the reason for the query is that I am helping a friend with a S2...I know that the S2 doesn't have the (accordion) exchanger internal; however, he was still getting oil/coolant mixed (and we don't think it is the head gasket)...we pulled the "filter console" and coolant poured out when we broke the seal between the block and the "console"...just trying to determine where the coolant comes from and goes to on a S2. any add'l info is appreciated.
thanks...Jim thanks for the help |

sorry, looking at the block, the lower left corner and the upper right corner. Stick your finger in there...you'll find them. lol The S2 and the turbo use an external oil cooler, but you will have coolant behind that "console".

THANKS!!! found both coolant entry/exit points. the one on the left is sorta easy to find but the one on the (center) right top can't be seen by eye (because of the angle) but found it with a probe.
again...thnaks! |
