Door Panel question
Can you take the material off the door and have it stiched to look like the 968 door panels? Not sure how the material is attached.

Kev, is the first door from a 10 speaker system?
Also, I can't tell if the 968 door doesn't have power window switches, is that true, or are they in the same place as the 944? Thanks!

I am willing to bet an upholstery guy would be able to do that blindfolded.

I want to keep my brown door panels. I wanted to take off the material, have it stitched and place it back on.
I wasnt sure how it was constructed. Like most porsche interior parts that are glued. |

An upholstery shop can dye new panels to match.
I chose to buy a used dashboard to have releathered so I did not have to take the car down for a week while the work was done. The shop did a great redo on the top, and dyed the bottom to match my car from the tan that it was. I don't have any before pics when it was tan, but this pic is the dyed bottom ready to go in my car. ![]() To show how well it matched.

Is yours an early or a late car? If late, a pair of 968 panels could swap in, instead, and dying them is likely easier because the problem with stitching yours would be that you'd have to take them off the fiber board which supports them. If your backing boards are pristine, go ahead, but if they've been through a few wet-dry cycles, you'll never get the vinyl refastened acceptably.
Having said that, if you are one of the few who has good backing boards, a slightly lighter brown thread for contrast against your brown vinyl would stay subtle, but really make the panels pop!

I have a '86 944 na. My door panes are in pristine shape. I wanted to do the stitching in the color of the car. (beige / cream color. ) I had my floor mats and sunroof bag embroidered the same way. was going to have the steering wheel, shift boot and e-brake boot done the same way. I really didnt want to fork out the money to buy extra panels from a 968 and pay to have them dyed, plus I wanted the contrast in the stitching and you cant do that if you dye it.

I think it sounds like a great idea. Will you take a photo of the sunroof bag? I would love to see what it looks like, close-up.

Nice. I see what you mean. Also, I'm jealous of your script seats!
