Installing a carpet kit?
 

How difficult is this to do? Classic 9 Leather Shop has a black cut carpet kit for about $400. Looks to be good quality and not just a roll of carpet that you have to cut. Allegedly, cut to fit perfectly. Here is my question. How hard is it to remove the old carpet, keep track of all the fasteners and install the new carpet? What sort of insulation padding or sound deadening padding do you put under it? Is this a 4 hour job or a multiple day job? Anyone done it? Pictures would be great of your before, during and after project. What recommendations would you make if you had to do it all over again?

I am interested in the same question as I am tackling this in a few months. Another point I would add to this is, what is the savings and how much more difficult to use bulk non-kit non-formed carpet? All I have seen is "its harder" but I am more interested in what is actually involved.

I have replaced several carpet sets and they are not all that complicated. that is if the Carpet set going back in fits correctly...All of the seats must come out.

Porsche glued the carpet down in several spots so the old carpet needs to be pulled/ripped out most of the time.

Upon re-install of the new carpet use a good carpet glue (I used "Sticky Stuff"), and pay attention to where the carpet ends at the door openings and get it to lay flat and under the plastic threshold moldings there.

It would also help to do a fit for straight and square before the glue part - If you get the carpet in crooked it will be more difficult to straighten and very difficult to fit correctly all over after the sticky stuff...

This is why i like watching Speed or spike tv... Even tho the shows are mostly for trucks and hot rods they give you little tips like replacing carpets. takes about 10 min to do on tv land

Best tip i got from the guy was that you will have to trim material to help make it fit and using a heat gun to help take the shapes helps as the molded kit's are never going to fit 100%...

for the record, i replaced all the carpet in my car from generic stock (stuff you buy in a roll from an auto upholstery store) in a few hours spread over 2 days. took that long because all the moldy insulation got me sick halfway through.

Not cut perfect, but pretty close. I used EZ cool for insulation, relatively cheap and lightweight. Have pics, but it's hard to see a difference with black carpet for before and after. project took a couple days, but I also did a lot of other work while everything was apart.
