What the ????
THis morning I heard a noise as I was driving to work. Couldn't make it out. It stopped. I drive home and i hear it again but it stops . Out this evening I pull over and pop the hood and it sounds like I have rocks im the cam tower I try to pin point the noise but no luck. Then the noise slowly fades away.. Everything seems find and is normal.
I did notice on the front of the cam tower were theditrubuter cam and spark plug wires go into the cam, there is a hole. I can stick my finger in it. I have noticed thaat in some pics on line that some have a plug and some do not. Any Ideas? |

that rubber plug is were the timimg mark is . i would say one of your lifters is bleading down on you . when you hear the noise take a long screw driver put it to you valve cover and the other end to your ear ( you will use the screw driver like a stethoscoop ) . you then can pin point just were the noise is coming from . some may say sea foam it . i don't like to i would opt to change a bad lifter . there not that bad to do on the 944 motors .

i had something similar, it was a loose exhaust header bolt.
As the motor warmed up, the metal expanded & tightened itself up. It sounded like rocks in the cam housing Check for loose bolts
