Bodypart and work

Not sure if it possible. Had an accident this past week and Looking for the metal piece on the rear just above the bumper and below the lights where the rear porsche decal goes. Can this be cut off another car and placed on mine?

Mine is bashed in under the right rear tail light. No bumper or rear fender damage. there is a small dent under the rear wing on the seam next to the 944 badge. I have seen worse damage on the site so I know it can be fixed.

I'm just want to know what I'm getting into when I deal with the body shop and not get taken advantage of.

Hi Kev, Take a picture of it and post it. You might be able to hammer it out with a body hammer if it is not that bad. I bought several different shaped body hammers, bucking bars and hard rubber shaped blocks and will tackle the small jobs. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Cheers,
Larry

well thats the QTR and the rear body panel ! i see there is a little crease right in front of the tail lamp that can be repaired along with the dent over the tail lamp . i think i would do a cut and splice on the peace under the lamp . your looking at a 9 hour repair time plus refinish and R AND I's .

Hi Kev, Yep, that is quite a bit more than simple hammer work. A cut and splice like 962 says is in order. Minor surgery has to be performed. Sorry about that nasty bruise under the light.

Cheers,
Larry

Most likely that's a total loss on paper even though it doesn't look like much. Those rear panels are welded in (lots of labor time) and the dealer parts aren't cheap either.

If you're going to keep the car, don't report this to insurance and fix it as mentioned above - by finding a donor car and welding in new metal patch panels. If the ins. co. gets wind of this they'll total the car for sure.

Hey Kevin, do you have a friend that is a master welder? 962porsche and grandad#3 are right, the labour to repair this is considerable. Its a shame that so little damage has such a high repair cost. Finding a donor car would be a good idea.

so roughly 900 bucks for the body work. what do you think is a resonable est for this work. So far it's been 1500 or they wont touch a porsche at all.

becouse labor rates very from state to state no one can tell you what a resonable price is . then there are many shops that will do low end work at a low end price . if your looking to bring it to a high end shop then your looking at more money . a shop like the one i own that repair would cost you about 2300 dollars . but when its finished you could never tell that it was repaired . even if you remove the interior trim panels you still would never know it was repaired . but thats what you pay for . so you could find a place to repair it for that 900 dollars but there going to hammer the metal around and mud it up . the tail lamp may or may not leak ? a junk yard will have that peace you need . for used parts look up on car-parts.com

Anyone out there with a parts car that can cut this?

I did find a parts car. It's a 84, I have an 86
I thought I could use it for the damaged part on my car. I wanted the front air dam and some misc parts off of it but wasnt sure if the front air dam/ valance was a direct replacement. Then I thought I could part out the rest of the car.

Body panels are all the same between early and late cars except for the left front fender because of the antenna hole.
