Crusing speed for the N/A's

What is the general crusing speed of the 944 N/A's ??? say 70 to 80 MPH..(safely).
Belive it or not I have never driven a 44 and when I get it on the road I would be curious of the crusing speed.....FM

3000 rpm's @ 80 mph it runs great.

speedracing944 09-21-2010 06:18 PM

Speedy:)

Vicious 09-21-2010 06:29 PM

i usually sit around 85 at 3k. nice and smooth. 130 it gets a lil fun haha

Roman944 09-21-2010 06:40 PM

wow, I stay within the limit - 60-65 usually

speeding in NYS is REALLY expensive! takes away from my mod money, lol

Never had my car above 63. I'm afraid it'll fly to pieces, cap'n! :( It's hard to trust it after 6 years of disappointing maintenance.

Thats good news now,...how will it handle on back roads with a little extra speed, will it handle well or will it be a little squirrly. ??? FM

944's are in their element on twisty back roads.

My favorite around here is the road to Mt Rainier. There's one section in particular near Alder Lake where it's all 20-30 MPH corners and it's well-banked. I like to go through there early (before the Winnabago crowd hits the road) at 50-60 MPH.

My NA doesn't handle as well as my 951, but they both do awfully well.

The usual freeway cruising speed for both is 70-80 MPH, traffic permitting.

At least once every time I drive my 951, I try to burn the carbon out and run it out to redline in third gear - 105 MPH. I've been chicken to go past there. My son has had his 951 up to 130 MPH. On one trip, he cruised for maybe 100 miles at around 115-120 MPH (he was in a hurry).

The cars are made both for the autobahn and for twisty mountain roads. Does it get any better?

It eats up the Highway at 80. I've done long stints of 90-105 though without incident.... Its stable at those speeds....

Man,. I cant wait to get it on the road ,..I was hoping for such great reports....!!! FM

I will say it felt like a dog after I knocked out a few miles in the M3 at ~130. It was very surreal when I realized how smooth it was for how fast I was going...

Shot across the desert at 120 with the cruise control on in my NA, smooth and very sure footed.

Loved the bottom end torque in the S2, handled well on the big track at Willow Springs, and was a BLAST on "The Streets of Willow" (short course).

Been to 140 in the turbo, and decided that it was time to lift the right foot, but that was me, not the fault of the car, but I haven't tracked it yet.

All said, these are great cars to drive and enjoy.

i drove from salt lake to my friend's house in modesto, california. it was almost exactly 800 miles. i made two stops for gas. i got there in almost exactly 10 hours. 33 mpg.

Sweet.....FM

VINMAN 09-22-2010 05:06 AM

I dont know. I've never been over 55.....

desertt5 09-22-2010 05:49 AM

Wow, my engine runs 4Krpm at 80mph. It does cruise nicely at 4500rpm though.

krystar 09-22-2010 07:02 AM

just don't go above 88mph and yer fine

white944cup 09-22-2010 09:07 AM

My 951 feels like it's on rails and it's still pulling hard at 120........cruises all day long at 80 while getting 28 mpg.

Now you tell me. I got stopped doing 92mph on my way to Motreal this summer. The worst part is it wasn't even my 944 it was my friend's Accord. Oh well at least he caught me when I was going a little slower.

looneybin 09-22-2010 12:17 PM

don't go faster than 68, go 69 & you eat it :)
