Scared to Clean the Grounds

I'm about to begin cleaning the grounds on my 84 after issues of a dim then bright battery light. All I ever read about here and Rennlist is the inspection hole, and putting tape over it. What is the best technique in doing this, currently my starter is off, but I want to remove as much electrical resistants to my car as possible. I'm sure nothing like this has been done to it prior to my ownership. All information is helpful, and would a dremel with a wire brush attachment work well in this situation?

I just stuff a rag in the hole, and work carefully. Don't forget to remove it tho.

Thanks, I'm I've read threads with you requesting pics of this job. This will be my first attempt and I was like you, looking for pics and that nature so I can go into this with confidence.

Yeah mine was missing the bell housing ground altogether. Caused some pretty funky stuff to happen.

Well I plugged the hole like you suggested and even added a safety rope in case something crazy happen i could pull it out. I had to adjust the heater control valve that i had currently installed to get to the bolt. I had no troubles there, not damage too much. Some slight green on the wire but not on the ends. Cleaning the the wire with soda right now to get the shine. Hopefully this solves my dim battery light issue. I'll find out tomorrow I hope.
