924 Starting Issue

I have a 1979 924 that recently won't start. I was on my way to work, got gas, and drove less than a mile and the car died. I pushed it out of the road and jumped in like i use to do with my old bug and it started in second gear but died quickly. I had to have it towed home. It gets spark so i checked the fuel pump.

I could not hear the fuel pump turn on while the key was on or when the car was cranking. I then used my test light on both the of the wires going to the fuel pump and I got nothing, no light.

I decided to check my fuses and they were all good. The thing that was odd to me was while on accessory or where the key is when the car is running i noticed some of my fuses were not getting power. With this i figure my fuel pump is one of the devices getting no power also knowing that I got no light at the connecting wires. I am desperately waiting for my Haynes manual to come in the mail due to my younger cousin loosing the original while working on his 924 also.

I guess my question for now is what fuse is the fuel pump fuse? Is there some sort of relay in between power and the fuse box that could be blown? Being that my other car is a 1967 mustang and has a manual fuel pump and those old glass fuses any help or knowledge is greatly appreciated. I am a Porsche newbie I do admit it =)

You're on the right track. It seems your fuel pump relay has died. Hop on over to 924Board.org :: Index and search there to your heart's desire. There is a way to bypass the relay but off the top of my head I can't recall it, sorry.

Is there a way I can check the relay? If I were to ground and put power to the relay. What two prongs would I use to do so to try and hear if the switch was activating?
