rubber molding piece - what/where is it?

there's a rubber molding piece that goes on the transmission carrier, on the back and bottom of the door edge opening, around the hole in the body in the engine compartment where the fuel/brake lines and wear sensor cable pass through. it might be in other places. it has a hatched pattern on the surface - it is not smooth. it is not a fat rubber weatherstripping piece.

if you know what I am talking about, what is this piece called and where is it in the PET? It is not easy to find for me. I have not found it in the Pelican catalog either on multiple occasions.

Yep, know the stuff. It probably isn't in the PET as when the car was being built the assemblers would have just cut this edging trim off of a roll, as they required it. Yes, it does appear in different places, a couple in the engine compartment where the brake pipes and fuel lines go into the strut tower and two pieces on the torsion bar to stop the handbrake cable rubbing on an edge.

Any good automotive trim supplier should have something similar, otherwise go down to the local wrecking yard and pull a load off of a parts car - any kind will do.

Google automotive edging strip...lots of pic's.

The metal inside it does rust and so it can become useless and fall off, so getting some new stuff is a wise idea. It seems to be a PVC rubber composite. Hope that helps.....

Is it the same checkered hard rubber that covers the "lip" at the bottom and back of the door opening?

I think so - that's what I meant when I wrote "door edge".
