Exclamation 88 Turbo value

I'm looking at buying this 88 Turbo . It has sat for a year , starts right up needs a clean up, looks well maintained . Only thing that concerns me is oil burning off the exhaust. The cam cover and head gasket are dry. No oil visible where it has sat. Where could the oil be coming from ...oil pan gasket ? I could probably pick this car up for under $2K.The car is being sold on behalf of a family member. Car needs to go. 140K miles on it. Any ideas or should I move on

probably oil pan gasket or rear main seal dripping on cross-over. for $2K, well worth it even for a couple problems. S model?

that's a good deal. You won't regret buying it.
My turbo had the same problem when i bought it. Mine the cork gasket on the back of the cam housing. But yours could be cam cover gasket aswell.
Also the headers will smoke if not ran in a loong time.

+1 on the rear cam cover. Mine had bolts which weren't even close to finder tight, and one had backed out so far that it fell off in my hand when I touched it...

Mine had only one bolt left, and was amazed to the amount of oil on the back engine. It took acouple days just for the headers to stop smoking.
Everyone said dude your car is on fire!!

The headers are new, the header bolts to the block and exhaust pipe are still gleaming. The motor runs for about two minutes then the smoking starts and I can smell the burning oil.Once again checking with a flashlight the back of the cam tower is dry as is the engine but oil pan looks wet . Ive got a NA 944 now at home also.

Is it smoking off the the passenger side headers, or towards the back side of the engine towards the drivers side?
If you can't find any oil leaks try just letting it run to burn off all of the oil that is already on it. No harm in it unless it's gushing oil on the headers.
I replaced the headers on my 951 with a good used set and they smoked like crazy.

Yes its burning off the passenger side, I would guess by the crossover pipe. I'm going to go back with a jack and overalls. Sounds like eveyone thinks this 951 is a bargain for under $2K

It's a fair deal. I wouldn't expect to get it for any lower for a drivable turbo.
When I bought mine I tried but it wasn't going to happen. I ponied up the $ and haven't looked back... lol
I bought mine for two grand as well.

ok it is probably not the cross over pipe. The back of the cam is dry. Look at where the cam and head meet. See if you can find any seepage between the two. also The oil cooler lines thread in right under the headers so that can be the cause. If you can't find anything It's prolly just old oil on the headers from sitting. They do take some time to burn off. You'll be freaking out, Like my car is on fire! but It's just burning all the old scheisse up.

Under 2K for a 951 in Canada? Why are you hesitating?

Besides, in your repair travels once it's safely tucked up in your garage you may find cam tower gasket replacement just part of what's needed to get it on the road. So, incidental, really.
