Air Conditioner Removal

Since purchasing an 83 NA last August I have been plagued with Accessory Belt noise problems or more accurately A/C Compressor mounting problems. Since I have no inclination to use the A/C on this car I am considering removing the compressor and as much related plumbing and hardware as possible. The dealer quotes about $66.00 for a new adjustment jackscrew. The parts guy does not think a different Alternator bracket is required. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you need an a/c delete bracket aswell as a shorter alt. belt. There is a factory delete bracket (944-603-134-02) available and many different versions of billet brackets available as well. The adjustment rod is the same.

I did an ac delete on my Turbo.. much more of a PIA than I expected. It may be easier on a NA however. (this may only apply to the turbo, but you may want to look at yours first) I originally bought a very cool and trick billet one. I returned it and got a factory one because I noticed that the recessed allen bolts of the aftermarket one would not allow me to retain the brackets mounted to the top two bolts. One was the hook for engine removal and one was to the intake (held some plumbing). You will also need new bolts that are the right length for the factory one (ac delete bracket is thinner than the combo bracket) and a few extra washers to go under the brackets so the have the same height also.
I also ran into an issue with the alt. in it's new position. I had to cut the plastic shroud so it wouldn't hit the steering rack. Also the bolt hit the radiator and would not go in front to back. I had to pop out the encased nut and mount put it in back to front. The empty space of the encased nut fit the bolt head so it worked nice.
