Strange oil leak.

Ok, got a head-scratcher for you all.

85.5 944 118K miles, seals done at 85K miles

I have an oil leak - looks like it is coming from the vicinity of oil cooler/oil pressure sending unit.

My oil cooler seals are fine, no mixing of the fluids anywhere.

Has anyone seen an oil pressure sender leak before?, or am I looking at a front camshaft seal?

(PS, ran a compression test, the head gasket is fine)

Any ideas/input would be appreciated.

AFJuvat

Oil pressure sender itself is a common leak. Mine is leaking a bit also. I think the only cure is to replace it. Make sure it is installed with the proper amount of torque first though. My friends 944S2 was leaking there but it was because the unit was not properly torqued in.

If the sender is working fine, then just replace the copper crush washer between the sender and the housing. Dealer has them for under a $1. Again as the above post stated proper torque is crucial to getting this thing to seal.

I know someone who had his oil cooler seals leaking onto the ground...rather than within the system.

I think I have a similar leak after changing to synthetic.

Food for thought...

It could be all three as was in my case.

1. Oil sender ... yup...leaks...you have to torque exactly.

2. Check the camshaft gasket... mine had a leak that would trickle from the front and right down the side of the oilcooler.....I kept thinking it was the oilcooler...... once I tore that section down...I realized most came from the gasket....... not the oil cooler

TOOOK FOREVER TO FIND THE LEAK!!!!

When I finally took the camcover unit off......the bolts were so loose in the front I could turn them by hand!!!!! hence the leak.
