Ridiculous price on a 944

I really hope some fool does not pay the asking price for this 944, low miles notwithstanding.

The car is the exact same color combo as my 85.5 car. Even has the same wheels.

Why does it have a new clutch if the mileage is so low?

I'd bet a 17 year-old rubber centered clutch disc can't clamp for *****. The car DOES look really clean, just not 15k dollars clean...

I would guess because it sat so much? The rubber on the old style clutch probably deterioated from sitting and drying up which would of course, make it harder to drive and not very smooth compared to a new spring centered disk.

I paid what I thought was a LOT for an early 85 with less than 40K miles. The PPI was fine, a few notable spots of interior damage due to roof leak, but engine and tranny were great. It was as good as I thought it would be, but I still ask my self weekly, was $5000 way too much.
I can't even IMAGINE spending $15000 on it.
You could get a nice s2 for that... or an assortment of other cars.... or two 86s.... what are they thinking!?

Local Porsche dealership has a immaculate 86 n/a with 40,000 miles for $11,996. I wouldnt be surprised if it goes for $10,000

my 18 year old rubber centered clutch was fine. the rubber was still like new. replaced it with another rubber centered one that clamps just like the old one... only difference is that the clutch pedal is now lower to the floor.

The 15k price is just wishful thinking, but who knows, maybe there's someone other there for whatever reason who will shell out that kind of money. And that's what the seller is banking on. If there are no takers, he figures he's out only a few dollars for the ebay fee.

Obin... My clutch out of my 944 was missing almost half of the rubber. It was always driven all the time except winter. Plus I just figured the one on ebay sat for a very long time without being driven compared to yours which is a daily driver in the summer, I think? haha

our 944 sat for about 2 years before we got i. there were bees in the tailpipe and a mouse's nest in the air filter

after we got it, the driving was "light" until the clutch was replaced. in other words, i didn't go too far because i was worried about being stranded on a blown clutch.

Well Nabeel, I have a 85.5 with 61k orig on it, flawless interior and mechanicals, couple rock chips(would have to point em out) and it went 7k since 1994,had the goodies ALL checked out at the local "P" Dr. and he say's it's rock solid ,including the clutch, gave this man my checkbook and said help yourself,he changed the brake fluid, inspected the car and said "have a nice day". Nice ride!!, well this puppy went for more than $30k and it's top condition, all original,so what's a garage queen that does it all,go for to someone who wants an un-molested ,no rice,Porsche go for??????????? I was damn glad to buy it for more than the "market" but it's cost me nothin' to own and the "next owner" will be just as happy, documented. Just a thought, Jim H

Did you just say your 1985.5 944 sold for more than 30K?

WOW

I don't think there is any on earth that I could sell my car for anywhere near that price. It is also all original, with 65K miles on it. All records and documention since new, needs absolutely nothing. Still, I'd be lucky if I could get anything more than $ 7000 for it.

Porsche Crest

It's all in the eyes of the beholder. fty,as a CEO you know what it costs for your product or services,do you feel bad when you ask your price and others pay it ,I doubt it. Why then would you believe that a Better/cleaner/pampered/unmolested example of what makes your heart palpitate wouldn't appeal to someone who doesn't want to go to the bother of wrenching all his spare cash and time on a car,or worse paying others to do it ,for a higher price. I have made a lot of money and run several corporations which all sold a very good product for a higher price than the competition..........because it represented a "VALUE" to the buyer, not a scam. There are MANY people out there with mega $$$$$$. Look at the 911 board on e-bay, 20+ bids on a $60-100,000 car....they ain't all dealers. I could have anything on there..,I CHOOSE to have my 944's and I want 'em pristine. I've thrown away more tools than most own and spent countless hours under, over, beside, behind CARS. I can look back at all that through the eyes of this board and others. The vancouver connection makes my point exactly...you get what you pay for. Wanna fix it, paint it ,replace half the car, good... by a beater, then fix it up. Pay the upfront first, and just maintain it......,gaw'd I'm exhausted!! Good on yer, guys. Jim H
