Porsche Crest loco headlights

I just got my new acquisition out of storage! I purchased a bone stock 89 951 over the winter. I drove it home on Wednesday. It was a beautiful day which is highly unusual in Chicago. It was great.

However, I tried the headlight switch and the went up and down twice and then stayed up. When I went to turn off the headlights, they went spastic. They just went up and down continuously until I shut off the ignition. When I restarted the car, the lights stayed down. I tried the switch again and the same this happened. I did a search on pelican and did not find a similar thread.

Has anyone had this issue? Any thoughts?

I had the same problem. Solved with replacing the relay on the headlight motor itself (peel the rubber cover off to expose it) after I went through the exercise of removing the motor, opening it up, cleaning everything thoroughly, etc. with no change. The relay is a standard relay so relatively cheap and certainly much easier to swap that out before pulling the whole motor.

Changed out the headlight motor relay yesterday......sweet! Lights work like a charm. I ordered the relay from our host and as usual, fast and efficient service. I ordered the cheaper relay. It was just north of 6 bucks vs the Porsche OEM relay at $64. I noticed that the old relay that i removed was a very high quality unit. The new one was very light and seemed to be of lesser quality. Has anyone noticed a difference between the cheaper relay and the porshce relay? I guess that is the $64 question.... Just wondering...

Thanks
