time for a new timing belt and balance belt, i think...
so, its been two years and maybe 10K miles since the belts were changed. i was going to get new belts from pelican and the pelican page says 60K miles. i thought it was 30K miles or two years, whichever comes first. what say you, the pelican brain trust?
also, the prices of timing belts are CHEAP!!!! since when is the timing belt $14.50 and the balance shaft belt $37? d.

Porsche recommends changing the cam/balance belts every 45,000 miles. Most of us do it at 40,000 miles (or every 5 years whichever comes first). Water pump should be changed every other belt cange (90,000 miles).
As for the cost difference on the cam and balance shaft belts, it's always been that way....the balance shaft belt is a dual sided belt so I guess they figure they can charge twice as much. LOL Actually, I suspect that the cost to produce the balance shaft belt is higher because of the design, and it is somewhat longer than the cam belt. If you track the car a lot, you may want to consider the Kevlar Cam Belt from Lindsey at $124.95.

I agree with 89-944NA. I always buy the timing belt kit (with rollers, etc) but I'm not sure it's necessary.

I do the rollers every other belt change, just like the water pump (or when I automatically do the belts on a newly acquired car). No matter when the belts were done, I ALWAYS like to do them first thing on a new car for piece of mind.

every FIVE years.... excellent. i will just open it up and check the belt tension and make sure things look good. the belts were replaced just two summers ago and the rollers were replaced the summer before that (i had to replace the balance shaft seals, so the belts were replaced again at that time....).
