Hello to All - New Toy
Just wanted to say hi to everyone, I just purchased a new toy. I usually hang out on the 911 board with my Beast project but have a feeling I'll be lurking here too. The car is an 87 Turbo.
Is there any consensus as to what the best "first" bang-for-the-buck is for these for increasing power? http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...oads/944-3.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...oads/944-4.jpg |
WOW!! Hey Mark, I followed your beast project and man is that an amazing job you did!
I do not know that much about the Turbos but i know that the first mods are Chips, Lindsey Boost enhancer, MAF airflow kit, than it goes on to Bigger turbo, Maual boost controller etc. thats about all i know I am sure Wolfpri would tell you a lot for it as he has highly modified a 951 |
Gorgeous Car!
I don't own a 951, so I will be pretty useless when it comes to offering advice, but I was just wondering what type of wheels are on the car....they look great. Great color, same as my 944 |
banjo bolt thingy and chip.....NICE car BTW!!!! -best regards-chris

welcome to the board. it looks like a beaut!
for me, the first upgrade would have to be the lindsey boost enhancer for improved turbo response, followed by chips, autothority, weltmeister, or custom. maf isn't very cost-effective, imho. to squeeze out some hp & for easier tuning, you could justify it perhaps. next you would want to look into an aftermarket wastegate like lindsey racings'. then a boost controller. unless you need 350+ hp, you can stick with the stock turbo. a bigger turbo would allow you to flow more, but the tradeoff would be slow response (big lag), which turns me off. again, welcome! <img src="http://home.pacbell.net/nirky/turbo_120.jpg"> |
That car's been for sale for almost 2 years! Its the almond 951 with 169k. Looks nice! I tried to get that guy down to 5k two Novembers ago but he wouldn't part with it. Since then I've had two 951s. If you need any help with the car you've come to the right place. There is also another informative board at rennlist.com. What brand are the wheels? He said that they were factory 17" authentic Porsche wheels - if so they are worth a fortune. Best of luck.

Heh, I'll trade you my C2's for those 3 piece C2's :D

Nice ride
The new toy looks great. Enjoy the water pumper world.
If you find out what those wheels are, I would like to know. They appear to be the same as the wheels on my '87, 944S. My PO claimed that were originals. I would like to confirm this. The only other cars I have seen them on are 944 turbos. |
I have the same 17" Cups on my 951 as well (though not so shiny :)) Mine has size: 205/40 front and 255/40 rear. I think these 17" wheels are a porsche standard rim but not for this model... or am i wrong?

You did a great job on that 911... What are the specs? Did you ever put her on a dyno-run? I can imagine that with all the things you changed the car is running great and sounds great as well, but how about the hp's?
By the way.. if you want to squeeze hp's out of an 951, there are many ways to do it. But not all of them are that reliable :) First thing to do is getting a good chip and the banjo bolt change (as said before autothority, weltmeister or a custom is great). Then you might try to kick that stupid air system out of the car and replace it with either a conefiler or MAF or if you want to keep the filterhouse as it is change it to a K&N filter. Your car will need some more air as chips will ask more air than the standard. After that you can start playing around with some boost thingies. Many things can be done (wastegates, bigger turbo etc.) But i think a chip and more air supply can kick the car up to over 300hp and this is where you have to start thinking about your drivetrain... 300hp is the factory max for the torquetube in our cars... |
As Blackfoot stated earlier...the MAF is not the best bang for the buck...it's WAY overrated....the chips would be the way to go first and then the wastgate and boost controller, I wouldn't waste the money on the LBE..just go straight for the boost controller, do a search on this subject....it's been posted on several threads and lot's of people have different views on how to make more power..........good luck and have fun:D .
Russ, 951 |
Very nice Mark...Welcome from the dark side...You have seen the light and now are officially a watercooled brother ;) ...I suspect after driving the 951 for a while the 911 will go up on the selling block...:D
