On the plus side, they are built like tanks

N.A.S Story 06-01-2011 01:06 AM

I love saabs they may not be the fastest things depending on what you get but they definitely turn heads. I started off with a 9000 then within two months bought a viggen ( will make m3 bmws look like mini vans from a roll)sold the viggen for my n/a 944 and then later that year got a newer 9-3 sedan for the fiancé. I'll eventually get the viggen back but right now the 944 has me occupied:(

I will give you this,it sure takes balls to drive something that looks like that.
I don't know if I want to laugh or puke, but as long as you like it that is all that counts.
I have some unusual tastes in cars myself,so I really have no room to talk.

my father and i are working on a 2000 turbo 93 as we speak. she's all rebuilt...the human mind is an amazing thing. i'm thinkin maybe after we get her re-registered (and insured) that i'm gonna do one of those stunts where the driver lodges a bat on the accelerator and jumps out of the car right before a cliff or somehting. lmfao!!!!

rick13 06-01-2011 03:46 PM

unless my sister wants it back!!!!!!!!

+1 - Those wheels are awesome!

Saabs are pretty cool. It'd be a fun project.

I had a friend who had a Sonnet (mid-70's) and it was a blast to drive. Kinda underpowered, but it was a cool car.

Since we're confessing our sins, I have to admit a minor obsession to own a Citroen DS.

I wouldn't mind having a Citroen DS (or a Le Car or a Yugo) for a 24 hours of Lemons car. lol

My S.O. has been driving a '91 900 Turbo Convertible daily for about 4 years. I don't drive it much because I really dislike the way the Borg Warner automatic shifts. It's really been a good car though, and quick enough once the turbo spools up. Bought it with about 135K on the clock. I've put tires on it, brake pads, tuned it up once, replace the airflow meter with a used one, replaced starter, battery and ignition switch. Had sundry little electrical issues to diddle around with when I first got it, no big deal. Never could get the seat heat to work though. Anyway, good luck with yours.

BTW, I too have a strange fascination with Citroens. Scary.

What's really scary is that there are three of us here who have confessed to that "strange fascination". lol

carlege 06-02-2011 11:32 AM

you will be amazed by how changing the wheels and stance will do to that car.

Good pickup man. The british show (forgot the name) where they restore cars did a show on this car and things to look for and tune up. Look for it and enjoy the car.

im looking for spg /aero body panels and a whaletail.
Im going to tweek this one out.

Alfadoc... Mine is an automatic also. Is yours slow from a stop to around 35 mpg? Paint dries faster. Also you can change the trans filter , fluid and adjust the bands and it will help alot.

alfadoc 06-03-2011 04:00 PM

Mine is slow to where ever the turbo spools up. The thing I don't like about the auto is that it won't make the 2-3 shift under light load...it just hangs 2nd. I have to run it up to about 38-40 mph and then let off the throttle to get it to shift. As soon as it drops to about 32 mph, it downshifts. If I'm accelerating quickly, then I get a good 2-3 shift; it's just light load. I've changed the filter, and drain what I can out of the auto box and refill every other oil change. I'll quit doing that after a few more repetitions (the car does not get a lot of miles put on it). As for adjusting the bands, I tried and tried to see the location of the adjuster with no luck.

BTW, I've driven classic 900s with the five speed. It's a completely different animal.

I went to Gorecki Auto here in Fort Worth. My saab had the licence plate frame so I went to see if they worked on the car and to acquire maintenace records for the car. Mr. Gorecki laughed and told me that it was his car. The other employees there said that it looked familar.

I told him about the slow start. We went for a test drive. He told me that I should use premium gas and it would help. but it is an automatic and doesnt have the response the manuals have. Said something that premium would help boost. that he upgrades my apc valve.

He also is also the one that put wired the coolant reservior. He suggest I should change out the radiator on the car.

So im taking it back to hims soon. He is going to adjust the transmission bands , fluid, filter for me.

I knew the car was well taken care of and I feel better about my purchase. Now for some cosmetics, wheels and maybe some engine mods.

(ALFADOC) WOW!!!! I went to put some premium in the tank. Even with it mixed with the regular, I noticed a difference in the performance from 0 - 35. Its a little quicker. I cant wait to fill up with premium and see how it responds. I thought you would like to know Alfadoc...I hope this helps you with yours. To ajust the bands and fluid etc.. it'a only $150 buck.

+2 Those wheels are what you want on a Saab.

The look of that Saab the way it is right now is sharp. I wouldn't go crazy changing much.

KevsPorsche944 06-10-2011 01:57 PM

Im going to change the rims to 18's but ill keep the super inca rims for winter tires. Im going to add a factory whale tale, red out the tail lights, clear corners and side markers. Then some interior mods , exhaust and engines mods.
