Carbon fiber parts

What sort of parts would you guys be interested in if they were made out of carbon fiber? Lets start with interior stuff.

Sorry, I'm going right to the big one. Carbon fiber sunroof panel. Saves weight at the top of the car for a better CG, and it would be easier to remove than the stock steel panel.

Incidentally, the stock panel is GRP

Aha jumping the gun ha ha i'm still working on getting all my supplies in, but the sunroof panel is definitely something i will eventually get made. What about emblems? or mirrors if i can figure out a good design. I'm just need to find where the interest is, I know the bigger stuff will definitely be desirable. But i'd like to start small just to make sure all my stuff is compatable. Eventually I'll be getting those hoods and fenders out but for now what sort of smaller to medium size things would be better off carbon fiber.

as long as it doesn't look like carbon fiber (that look is now an all but dead fad), and fits perfectly like stock, i might consider some stuff, but it would be body panels and the like, and for reasons of weight

I know it's not a small part but what about a dash cap? Cigarette lighter cover is small but I just added a Porsche crest from the key to mine and love that?

GT Racing (and others) have been doing these for years. They're ungodly expensive and I can't speak to the quality first-hand, but they are available.

YMMV. No affiliation.

Well right now I don't have all the mold and vacuum equipment to make the larger parts, I'm doing this stuff on the side and don't plan on living off what I make from these parts so they won't be as expensive.

Door skins seem like an excellent idea, thank you very much for those pictures. Where did you get them?

Dash trim pieces across the center of the dash - small pieces. Interior Door handles are small and easy to fab - bling. Interior door panels , light weight for the racers, flat with a simple light weight door pull. Custom size sub boxes (I have a sub box of carbon fiber that sits in the rear spare well and holds a 10" sub - looks good in black to match interior black carpet). etc., etc.

There we go! Excellent suggestions. I've never even thought of a sub box out of cf, very cool. Could you post a picture of the box you have? Also if anyone has extra parts that they are willing to part with for the sake of one's creative future? ha ha just small interior pieces that have a clean break that are of no use would be perfect.

A couple of Carbon Fiber pieces

With the Carbon Fiber Box there is a Aluminum Porsche Badge -very thin metal - floating above two layers of Epoxy and below the third - was a neat effect....Carpet still needs to have trim sewn around the cutout - next project.

Excellent pictures. Have you ever thought about putting a sub or subs in the wheel well storage areas? That was one of my first thoughts after i bought my 944. What gauges did you put in that new dash piece?

That sub box is in the spare wheel well - Sold the dash/gauges surround before I was able to mount it. Now have three gauges (Oil temp,Boost & A/F ratio) just below the stereo head in a CF plate.

Ok right now i'm working on the molds for headlight covers. Would anyone be interested in fiberglass as well? A bit less expensive and alot easier to paint.

Easy enough to fill the entire vent area on the Dash Gauge Surround - but then where does the air (hot/cold) escape. Usually better to leave the two ends open for better function.
