Porsche Crest 968 Questions

I have expanded my Porsche quest/research to the 968 and I imagine some of you 968 owners are/have been 944 owners.
When I was researching 911's some of the air cooled guy suggested that three were times (certain years of production) when the added weight/luxury did not keep up with the performance/handling. So my question is how dose the 968 handling compare to the 944S2 or Turbo S Keeping in mind that I am a hard core sports car guy and handling is everything to me.

If I wanted a luxury car there are some very nice vintage Mercedes available in this price range!

968 is the best handling car I have ever owned. I have owned a lot of sports cars in the last 6 years. You can look at this link to see some of the ones I have owned. The 968 has been the best handling one.

Agreed. Especially the M030 equipped cars.

Very nice car(s) Sprewell!
Love that color combo, dose your car have the highly lusted after M030 option?
Where exactly do you find that option code? I have heard it said that it's in the trunk? As if I would be so lucky to find a car with it and the owner didn't know.
Unfortunately I am finding very few bargains in the P-car market, most of what I am looking at is either low price fair to poor condition or high price good condition.

BTW I am aware of the pinion bearing and vario cam problems so no need to warn me of those issues.
I supose the best anyone can do is buy a car with good service records, get a PPI, and listen closely to the engine and trans.

The search goes on!

P.S. one 1993 I am looking at has 124K miles! is that excessive?
As you might guess the price is very desirable.

Thanks guys!

I have only had my car since December. I do not know if it has the m030. it does have the 17 inch wheels. What price is the guy asking for his 968. I dont think that mileage is excessive. Mine has 85 and no problems.

That mileage is still plenty low! Just make sure you have a full PPI done with compression and leakdown, and use the cam chain/tensioner as a bargaining chip if it hasn't been done, because it's DEFINITELY time for those to be replaced!

Well I can not comment on the 968 since it is the only front engine 4 cylinderPorsche 924/944 S/Turbo that I have not driven. I can say that the 944S2 with MO3O sport suspension is also a fabulous car for the twisties. It also has the 208hp 3.0L motor so it runs with the big dogs most of the time.

What is the guy asking for the 968 1993?

My friend is selling his 1989 944S2 red with black interior.. loaded with MO3O suspension and brakes. It has 130K miles and many new parts including clutch and belts and such. Asking $9500

You can see his car on my site here.

Porsche Crest

He (968 with 124Kmiles - 18 inch NON-Porsche rims ) is asking $14800
I am also looking at 1989 944S2, the seller says he has upgraded his shocks/springs, chiped the computer, and done recent major engine maintenance. he is asking $10K
AND a 1994 968 75Kmiles $18900

All are coupe with stick (only cars I am interested in)

Hey Scott!, 124K miles is still low and especially for these cars which seem to be the most trouble free of the series.

but, $14,900 is a lot for a car with that many miles!

I would not pay that much. that is a price tag for a car with 80k miles.

I bought my 968 with 124K miles for $12,000 including tax!

Sure it needs a tiny bit of work but it is absolutely beautiful.

Unless that car is perfect, for that i mean the leather looks new and the paint is perfect, runs excellent, then i would pick it up after a little negotiation.

herrs my car

Thanks guys keep the info coming!

Eturbo924 - The geocities link is not working

Sprewell17 - I sent you an email, let me know if/when you consider selling.

Raf944 - What is the "tiny bit of work" your car needs? I have not seen and therefor have not negotiated any price yet.

PorscheG96 - The owner agrees to a PPI and claims to have done belts Dec. 2001

Everyone - He has 18X10 275/35/18 on rear 18X8.5 225/40/18 front Cromodora (Italian) wheels - is that a good thing?
Makes me wonder if with that much rubber on the road he maybe driving the car hard!

Thanks again!
