how fast have you gone???

I wonder how fast you have driven, assuming it was safe , maybe on a race track ? As a stupid kid I took my V65 up to 145mph on the highway. I only drove my 944 up to 95mph while passing a slow poke who then decided to speed up. I did drag race one season in a 1973 dodge dart built just for that but I don't remember the top speed as it was all about time, around 14 seconds 1/4 mile.

115 in my old '84.

When I was going to prom, on the highway there was a kid in a 944 with nice paint which mine was lacking. I blew past him since there wasn't any traffic around us, got over 100 then.

24 years ago, 140+, stupid, on a motorcycle. about the same time, ~135, stupid, in my dad's prelude SI. more recently, i take the 5th.

I run my 951 completely out in 3rd - say about 105 - every now and then, but am chicken to go faster.

My son has taken his 951 up to 120 and cruised there for a half hour or so when he was on a trip to Eastern Washington. He said it wasn't any different than 80 or 100 in terms of stability.

145 and I hit the cruise control across the desert in my 951 (2 years ago). 165 in a blown '69 hemi charger.

1990 - The Ill. state trooper said I was going 160mph headed north towards Wisconsin. Ticket cost $435.00 in those days mail in - never did show up on my Wisconsin drivers license. I was driving a 1988 951 Turbo S.

In 1967 I owned a 1954 Corvette with a new 327ci - 375 hp. FI. small block. California Highway patrol never did catch up to me this particular time. They pulled up behind my car as it was parked at a diner and I was already inside. They said they were going 150mph trying to keep up, but couldn't - They were very interested in my car at the time though, and almost wanted to tow it - they didn't though.

Dumb kids do stupid things.

I have gone 100mph in my 89 944 NA and did 110mph in my 73 super beetle. Just after the 110 run I was on an off ramp and a cop pulled beside me then left back onto the highway. I figured he was thinking there is no way a bug was doing 110. Car was good for more. :)

Buck thirty five on the track. It was a loooooooooooooooong straight.

Also hit an indicated 135 in my Camaro in high school in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. I doubt it was really going that fast. . .1973 two barrel.

I've done 100 on the motorway for a few minutes in my 924S. Plan on seeing if it'll get to 130 on the autobahn on holiday in a couple of weeks.

My dad bought a day's driving instruction from Bentley in a charity auction (they offer courses for new owners). On an airfield we did 175 in a Flying Spur. They are huge cars and have incredible acceleration. We also did emergency stops from 130mph, slaloms and spun it a lot.

Really showed me that you need to think way ahead if you're going fast and not going to spin.

I'm going to find a track day or autosolo later in the year to improve my skills.

255 kmh several times on autobahn 6 westbound near Homberg exit in 85.5 n/a. Gotta have it floored at the top of the hill and you'll hit 255-260 at the bottom. Can do it on A-63 too. Did it with my friends 951-s without the hill. You can hit 240 on the flat road of a-67 & a-5 all day. Of course, that was in the 90's when the car still youthful. Very important to have a properly tuned radio tho.

warp factor 8 in the 944, as fast as she'll go...

James Chimney 07-26-2011 02:12 AM

110 in my 85.5 944 na, 170 on my motorcycle twice with room to go faster, just ran out of road.

130 ish in my 928
100-110 at NHMS in my 951. (will be updated once I go to a bigger track :) )

Dawgz83948 07-26-2011 07:56 AM

183 GPS verified since my speedo was buried. Anyone else know that the foam spoilers on a 944 tend to vibrate and deform in the middle at over 160? Now I know why the factory racers used a rigid spoiler.

Flat out 83 944 (RIP) w/ 418hp v8 944 turbo transmission and n/a 5th gear.
