I own a 1986 model 944, which i have a problem with a oil leakage on the right side of the engine (seen from the front). When i look down at the top of the engine i can see some oil spillage under the back of the inlet manifold - some place in the back end of the balance shaft housing, above the oil pan seal.
Before i start to service the engine, i want to know i anyone could tell me if this is a common oil leakage; - Back of the balance shaft housing ? - Oil cooler mounting seals ? - Oil filling tube mounting seals ?

I would venture to guess the oil filling tube seal.......
Hard to tell unless you get under the car. Not oil cooler (other side)

My balance shaft housings leaked. So does the seal at the filler but the filler leak was slight so I let it slobber. Mine is an '86 951. The back of the balance shaft has these silly bobbin-like disks with an o-ring around them. It is squeezed between the housing and the block. The o-ring wears away and oil comes out the back. Mine also leaked between the housing and the block. I don't know why Porsche ever used the bobbin-like thing. Maybe they did it to provide future income. It has certainly worked!
